After pounding UM-Morris 47-10, the Cobbers must wait 64 hours before finding out if they will earn an at-large bid into the field of 32 teams that make the NCAA Tournament. However, after Thursday night three things are for certain; the Cobbers have posted back-to-back, nine-win seasons for the first time in program history; the Cobbers finished the regular season by averaging more than 300 yards per game on the ground - a first in program history and kicker Brian Halverson finally broke the record for most field goals in a career when he knocked home an 18-yard field goal in the first quarter. Concordia finishes the regular season with a 9-1 record. After posting an 11-1 mark last season, the Cobbers record the first consecutive nine-win seasons in program history. Concordia gained 320 yards on the ground against the Cougars. That pushes the Cobbers' final average rushing yardage per game to 305.6. That is the first time in program history a team has averaged over 300 yards per game on the ground for an entire season. Finally, Halverson finishes off his year-long attack on the Cobber record book. Besides his 18-yard field goal, he also converted on a 24-yard attempt and now has 31 for his career. He holds the Concordia record for most field goals in a career, most points in a career, most consecutive field goals, most extra points made in a season and a career, field goals made in a season and field goal percentage in a season. The Cobbers broke on the board early. After stalling out on their first offensive drive, Tanner Radermacher put a hit on one of the Cougar receivers to jar the ball loose and Concordia recovered the ball on the Morris 23-yard line to set up the very first score of the game. One the Cobbers' first play after the fumble, Kevin Williamson rambled for 23 yards to put Concordia up 6-0 - a lead they would never relinquish. Williamson pushed over another rushing touchdown later in the quarter and the Cobbers were well on their way. For Williamson it was his team-leading 15th touchdown of the year. That ties Bob Beliveau (1978) and Ed Oehlers (2004) for second place on the all-time list of touchdowns scored in a single season for a Cobber. Williamson needs to more TD's to tie the record of 17 set by Mike Jousma in 1992. Concordia would score 13 more points before Morris finally got on the board with a 37-yard field goal by Rick Arterberry with 1:30 remaining in the second quarter. Cobber freshman running back Cory Johnson scored the only touchdown of the third quarter when he scampered around left end for a 9-yard score. Playing most of their reserves throughout the second half, the Cobbers finished the game with two more touchdowns. Ben Frisk ran home the final two TD's of the game for Concordia. It was Frisk's first two touchdowns of his collegiate career. Morris scored their only touchdown of the game when starting quarterback Jeff Karschnik plunged home on a quarterback sneak from 1-yard out at the start of the fourth quarter. The 47 points scored by the Cobbers is the third most this season and represents the third straight game they have scored over 45 points. Concordia racked up 487 yards in total offense, the fourth straight week - and sixth overall in the season - they have gained over 400 yards in total offense. Williamson finished his three quarters of work with a game-high 78 yards on 12 carries. Senior Brian Schumacher was the first of four quarterbacks the Cobbers used in the game. He had 31 rushing yards and was 7-of-10 through the air. His longest hook-up came with freshman receiver Nick Alton who hauled in an over-the-shoulder 37-yard post pattern to set up the second score of the game. Morris was limited to only 10 first downs and 143 yards of total offense on 57 plays. Running back Trevor Copeland had 36 yards on 10 carries, and receiver Adam Van Ruden had four catches for 39 yards to post the biggest numbers for the Cougars. Defensively, Concordia had three players with five tackles each. Dave Moll, Brennen Lewis and Jeremy Christensen all had five tackles apiece as Cobber fans were able to get a glimpse of the linebacking corps of the future in Lewis and Christensen. Another future Concordia starting defensive player, Clinton Strother, showed his ability to beat offensive lineman and finished with two sacks, three tackles for a loss and four total tackles. Eri$ Svobodny had the "highlight reel" defensive play of the game when he made a diving interception in the first quarter. A pair of Morris defenders finished with tackle totals in double digits. Free safety Kevin Pope had a season-high 16 tackles, while cornerback Eric Quackenbush added eight solo tackles and 11 total tackles. Concordia will now wait and see whether their nine wins is good enough to gain a spot in the NCAA Division III playoffs. The selections will be announced on Sunday, Nov. 13 at noon on ESPN News.
