- Complete 2005 MIAC All-Conference Awards MOORHEAD, Minn.-- Concordia senior quarterback Brian Schumacher (Thompson, N.D.) was named the MIAC MVP for the second straight season it was announced by the MIAC league office on Monday. He was one of nine Cobbers to be placed on the MIAC All-Conference First Team and one of 20 players to receive postseason recognition. Schumacher becomes only the second player in league history to win the award in consecutive seasons. He joins St. John's All-American wide receiver Blake Elliott as the only players to earn the top conference award in back-to-back seasons. Elliot won the honor in 2002 and then again in the Johnnies' National Championship campaign of 2003. Schumacher led the Cobbers to a a second place finish in the MIAC and a 7-1 league record. Despite not putting up the eye-catching statistical numbers, he was rewarded for his ability to take an offense that had to replace six starting players and turn it into one of the top units in the conference for the second straight season. He turned his back on putting up tremendous personal statistics for helping the Cobbers post the one number that really matters - wins. Schumacher led Concordia to seven wins in conference play in 2005 and compiled a 15-1 MIAC record in the past two years combined. Statistically he averaged 200.2 yards per game in total offense, which placed him third in the league. He was also second in the league in rushing (88.8 yards per game) and third in pass efficiency (130.9). Schumacher only threw two interceptions in the team's eight league games, the lowest by any starting quarterback in the conference. Schumacher has amassed 2,017 total offensive yards in 2005, and has now gained 4,713 total yards from the line of scrimmage in his career. That total ranks him fourth on the school's all-time list of total offensive yards in a career. 2005 Concordia MIAC Postseason Award Winners MIAC 'Jim Christopherson' MVP - Brian Schumacher, Concordia College (Senior, Quarterback) MIAC 'Mike Stam' STAM AWARD - Damien Dumonceux, Saint John's University (Senior, Defensive Lineman) MIAC Coach of the Year - John Gagliardi, Saint John's University 1st Team All-Conference Offensive Line Running Back Quarterback Kicker Defensive Line Inside Linebacker Outside Linebacker Defensive Backs 2nd Team All-Conference Offensive Line Matt McCallum Jr. Buffalo, Minn.David Uselman Sr. Wadena, Minn.
