Tom Flynn celebrates his touchdown against Augsburg. He was named the MIAC Defensive Player of the Week.
Flynn Earns MIAC Weekly Honor

Complete MIAC Player of the Week Awards

MOORHEAD, Minn. (10/20/08) -- Concordia senior defensive back Tom Flynn (Shelby, Mont.) was named the MIAC Defensive Player of the Week it was announced by the league office on Monday. It is the first time that Flynn has earned the weekly Player of the Week honor. He joins fellow defensive back Andrew Larson as the only two Cobber players to receive the award this season. Larson was named the MIAC Defensive Player of the Week on Sept. 29.

Flynn was the leader of the Cobber defense that held Augsburg to only 18 points and 275 yards of total offense on Saturday. It is the fewest points scored and least amount of offensive yards gained by the Auggies all season long. It is also the fewest offensive yards gained by the Auggies since the middle of the 2006 season.

Flynn played a linebacker role in Concordia's dime package that spent most of the day on the field against Augsburg's high-powered pass attack. He finished the game with a team-high 10 tackles, including seven solo tackles. He was credited with one forced fumble and two pass break ups on the day.

Flynn's heroics were also rewarded on the scoreboard when he recovered a fumble in the second quarter to record his first collegiate touchdown.
