MOORHEAD, Minn. (8/22/06)--The Concordia receiving corps was a little like the Maytag repairman in 2006 – there wasn’t a lot of work to be had. The Cobber wideouts caught a grand total of 57 balls last season, the lowest total of any group in the MIAC. Of those 57, 23 were hauled in by emerging threat Nick Alton (Jr., Miltona, Minn./Parkers Prairie HS). Alton caught at least one pass in nine of the team’s ten games last year. His pass-catching ability will help whichever Cobber quarterback steps into the pocket. Alton will be joined by senior Riley Sammon (Odessa, Minn./Ortonville HS), junior Nick Houkom (Fargo, N.D./Fargo North HS) and sophomore Jake Krause (Moorhead, Minn.) as the teams’ main threats in 2007. Of the group with Alton, look for Krause to have a breakout season. Krause excelled for the CC baseball team in the spring and will no longer be a stranger to game-changing pressure situations. If there are too many dropped balls: Aaron Minter, Paul Shol, Brady Harms Bet You Didn’t Know: Junior wide receiver Nick Alton caught the longest passing attempt of the season in the very first game (vs. MSU Moorhead - 47 yards).
