NORTHFIELD, Minn. (10/13/07)-- In a game that featured 994 total offensive yards, the game was determined by a single inch with just :32 seconds remaining. The Cobbers were denied a chance at taking a lead in the final minute of play when their two-point conversion fell an inch short. The failed conversion left Concordia one point short as they fell 52-51 to 17th-ranked St. Olaf in Northfield on Saturday.

Cobber quarterback Jesse Nelson was ruled to have come up just short of the goal line on the play that determined the high-scoring affair between Concordia and the Oles. That play came just after Nelson had hooked up with sophomore receiver Jake Krause on a 10-yard touchdown pass on a fourth and seven. For Krause it was his third TD reception of the game. Despite coming up short in the officials' eyes on the point after, Nelson had the best game of his career as he ran for 104 yards and was 18-of-26 for 225 yards through the air. He also had a hand in five of the team's seven scores. He ran for two highlight reel TD's and threw for three more.

The two teams marched up and down the field with little resistance from either defense. The two teams only punted four times on the day and they combined to go 15-for-15 in situations inside the red zone. After Concordia was stopped on their opening series of the game, they rattled of six straight scores on the next six possessions. St. Olaf was equally proficient as they scored touchdowns on their first three possessions and scored points in seven of the first eight times they had the ball.

Throughout the entire game, neither team was able to gain a clear-cut advantage. The lead was never more than seven points throughout the entire contest. Concordia held brief leads in the second quarter and the Oles held the lead throughout the entire second half.

As a team, CC ran the ball 65 times for 315 yards. They also put up 225 passing yards to have a total of 540 offensive yards. That marks the third straight game the Cobbers have racked up over 500 yards of total offense. St. Olaf did their damage through the air. The Oles threw the ball 33 times for 319 yards. They finished the game with 454 total offensive yards.

Besides Nelson's heroics during the entire game, senior fullback Adam Swingdorf recorded his third 100-yard rushing game of the season. He carried the ball 21 times for a game-high 106 yards. He also had a career-high five catches for 53 yards. Once again he was able to crack into the end zone. He scored on a pair of short plunges and now has an MIAC best 13 TD's on the season. He is four scores away from breaking the school record for most touchdowns in a season.

Krause led the Cobber ever-improving receiving corps. He exploded to catch a career-high four passes for 96 yards. Riley Sammon matched his reception total, catching four balls for 37 yards.

On the defensive side of the ball, Jason Jude had a team-high seven tackles - all solo. Isaac Berling and Xavier Carroll both had six tackles each. Carroll came up with the lone CC interception of the game. He had a stellar game as he was matched up with St. Olaf's No.1 receiver Horace Gant for most of the afternoon.

Junior running back Coty Watkins led the Ole offensive attack. He scored four of the team's seven touchdowns - all of his scores came via the ground. He ran the ball 15 times and gained 68 yards. Senior QB Matt Penz went 21-of-32 for 299 yards and three touchdowns. His favorite target was running back Evan Endsley. Endsley had eight catches for 47 yards. Gant came away with seven catches for a game-high 124 yards. During the game he broke the St. Olaf school record for career receptions and tied the record for TD's in a career and in a single season. He now has 167 career receptions, 25 career touchdown catches including 10 in 2007.  

Sophomore defensive back Carson Jones totaled a game-high 13 tackles. He also came up with the one St. Olaf interception.

Concordia will stay on the road for a game against St. Thomas in St. Paul on Oct. 20 at 1 p.m. The Oles will complete their trio of games against top-flight MIAC teams when they host Bethel on Saturday, Oct. 20 at 1 p.m.
