MOORHEAD, Minn. (11/19/07)--Concordia senior offensive tackle Grant Weller was named the recipient of the Mike Stam Award that goes to the top lineman in the MIAC it was announced on Monday. He was one 19 Cobber players to earn conference postseason awards.

Weller becomes the fourth Concordia player to win the top lineman award since 2000. Offensive tackle Nick Didier earned the honor in 2004, defensive lineman Derek Flann was named in 2002 and defensive end Mark Hankel garnered the award in 2000. Concordia is the only school in the MIAC to have four players honored with the award in the past eight seasons.

It is the second straight year that Weller has earned All-Conference First team honors and third straight season he has earned a conference postseason award. Weller was a three-year starter on the offensive line. He was the leader of a group that helped Concordia set the school record for most points in a season (416) and touchdowns (58). The Cobber offense is currently ranked seventh in the nation in scoring, 10th in the country in rushing offense and 13th in overall offense. CC scored 50-plus points in a school record four games in 2007 and posted at least 40 points in six games. Weller was named the team Offensive Lineman of the Week twice in 2007.

Joining Weller as selection on the MIAC All-Conference First Team were running back Cory Johnson and linebacker Brennen Lewis.

Johnson became the school's all-time rushing leader during the season. He finished his junior season with 2,424 career rushing yards, breaking the old mark of 2,993 set back in 1993. Johnson led the team in rushing with 879 net yards. He had a 7.4 yards per carry average and finished the year with eight rushing TD's. He rushed for over 100 yards on four different occasions. He had a season-high 172 rushing yards against Hamline on Oct. 6. Johnson finished second in the MIAC in rushing yardage in conference games. In the team's eight conference games, he ran for 793 yards.

Lewis was the team's leading tackler in 2007. He ended the year with 84 total tackles including 49 solo tackles and 35 assisted tackles. Against Bethel on Sept. 15 he collected 21 total tackles to break the school record for most total tackles in a single game. Lewis finished the year sixth in the MIAC in tackles in league games. He had 70 total tackles in the team's eight MIAC contests. He was named the team's Linebacker of the Week for his performances against Bethel and MSU Moorhead.
