ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District Team (pdf) MOORHEAD, Minn. (11/12/07)--Two Concordia senior football players earned ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District honors it was announced on Friday. Offensive lineman Grant Weller (Sauk Centre, Minn.) was named to the Academic All-District First Team and running back Adam Swingdorf (Inver Grove Heights, Minn./Simley HS) was placed on the Academic All-District Second Team. Weller is now on the national ballot for consideration to be on the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-American Team. Weller and Swingdorf helped Concordia to a 7-3 overall record in 2007. It was the fifth time in the past six seasons Concordia has posted at least seven wins on the year. The pair was also part of the Cobber offense that set a school record for points and touchdowns in a season. Weller is majoring in Mathematics and Economics and has a 3.80 grade point average. Swingdorf maintains a 3.67 GPA while majoring in Biology.
The ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District team is part of the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America program, administered by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) a 2,000-member organization consisting of sports public relations professionals for colleges and universities in the United States and Canada. The Academic All-America program annually honors over 1600 student-athletes who have succeeded at the highest level on the playing field and in the classroom. Weller was a three-year starter on the offensive line. He was the leader of a group that helped Concordia set the school record for most points in a season (416) and touchdowns (58). The Cobber offense is currently ranked seventh in the nation in scoring, 10th in the country in rushing offense and 13th in overall offense. CC scored 50-plus points in a school record four games in 2007 and posted at least 40 points in six games. Weller was named the team Offensive Lineman of the Week twice in 2007. Swingdorf set the school record for overall touchdowns and rushing touchdowns in a single season. He blasted his way to 19 overall scores and 18 rushing TD's. He racked up at least two touchdowns in eight of the team's ten games including six straight to finish out the year. He is currently 12th in the nation in scoring, finishing with an 11.4 points per game average. Swingdorf was second on the team in rushing yards. He gained 653 yards on the year and averaged 4.0 yards per carry. He broke the 100-yard barrier on four different occasions in 2007 and had a season-high 106 rushing yards against St. Olaf on Oct. 13. Swingdorf was named the MIAC Offensive Player of the Week on Sept. 4 for his performance in the Cobbers' dramatic win over MSU Moorhead.
