MOORHEAD, Minn. (10/14/06)-- It was one of those days where nothing went right. It was the kind of day where you wish you could go back to bed, wake up and have a "re do". Unfortunately for Concordia, they were stuck having to go through that exact type of day as they lost 49-14 to St. Olaf in Moorhead in the annual Homecoming game in front of an announced crowd of 4,780.

The loss snaps the Cobbers' two-game winning streak and drops their conference record under .500. Concordia is now 2-4 overall and 2-3 in league play. The Oles right their ship after dropping last week's game to St. John's. St. Olaf moves their overall record to 6-1 and. They are now 4-1 in the MIAC.

St. Olaf was able to score on their first five possessions and Concordia was never able to answer as untimely turnovers and red zone stops cost the Cobbers from being able to stay within striking distance of the Oles.

When it was all said and done, the 49 points allowed by Concordia was the most given up in a single game since the 1998 season when the Cobbers lost 49-17 at Gustavus. Concordia also gave up 467 yards of total offense which is the most since last year when they allowed 533 total yards to St. Olaf in a 49-35 victory.

While the St. Olaf offense was racking up yardage, the Cobber offense was trying to grind out yardage through sustained drives. While St. Olaf did not have a drive that lasted over 10 plays, the Cobbers had three drives that were at least 11 plays and finished the game by pounding out an 18-play drive that scored the team's second touchdown. Concordia's offense also accounted for 22 first downs to only 17 for the Oles.

The story of the game was the air attack of the Oles. St. Olaf amassed 267 passing yards including a 95-yard catch-and-run for the fifth touchdown of the game that gave the Oles a 35-0 lead.

Concordia was able to run for 200 yards on the St. Olaf defense. Senior fullback Kevin Williamson had a team-high 77 rushing yards on 18 carries. Sophomore quarterback Jesse Nelson had 42 rushing yards and ran for one of Concordia's two touchdowns on the day. Cory Johnson accounted for the other Cobber score - a 1-yard run with :39 seconds remaining in the game.

Nelson was also 10-of-15 for 77 yards in the passing department. Scott Schumacher also saw time as the team's signal-caller and went 2-of-7 for 9 yards. Sophomore Nick Alton was the favorite target of the two QB's. Alton hauled in a game-high five catches for 26 yards.

Defensively, Concordia was led by junior Brennen Lewis who had a team-high seven tackles. Freshman defensive back Andrew Larson had six tackles, forced a fumble and had one pass break-up.

Concordia will try and get back to its winning ways when they host St. Thomas on Saturday, Oct. 21 at 1 p.m. at Jake Christiansen Stadium.
