Olson Forum

Overview:
The $5.9 million Olson Forum, a multipurpose sports and fitness complex, opened in 1994 with four regulation basketball/volleyball/tennis courts and a 200-meter competition running track. In 2002, a balcony was added to provide students with a selection of fitness and cardiovascular exercise equipment, each equipped with individual television monitors. Use of this state-of-the-art fitness center is free to all students.

History:
The $5.9 million Olson Forum honors the vision of Earl and Dorothy Olson for their landmark $5 million contribution to the building of this sports and fitness center. The 83,000 square-foot building is set 12 feet below ground level and has a 28-foot ceiling.

The floor covering of the Connor Track was developed in Germany and is unique to any building of this size in the region. Four courts striped for a number of sports are set inside the track.

A series of windows line the east and west walls and a 450-foot pedestrian gallery overlooks the courts. The Olson Forum also contains four classrooms.

In 2002, a balcony was added to provide students with a selection of fitness and cardiovascular exercise equipment, each equipped with individual television monitors. Use of this state-of-the-art fitness center is free to all students.

The Offutt Concourse is 135 feet long and features several facilities on two levels. The Birkeland Lounge, north of the lobby area, is used for formal meetings, receptions and news conferences.
