Women’s studies draws on the expertise of several academic departments at Concordia. The program is an interdisciplinary minor that places the lives and experiences of women at the center of inquiry by analyzing the roles and perspectives of women, as well as their contributions to the scholarly, artistic, political, social and religious worlds.

Concordia Distinctions
Concordia’s Women’s Studies program is unique in the following ways:
• The Women’s Studies program is owned by faculty and students who meet regularly to exchange ideas, listen and interact with guest speakers, and enjoy social gatherings.
• Concordia offers two May Seminars Abroad in Women’s Studies. “Sisters of Faith: Life in Medieval Europe” examines women’s issues from a historic and religious point of view in Italy, Germany, France and England. “The Life of a Psychologist” offers travel to Quebec, Nova Scotia, British Columbia and other areas in Canada to examine important environmental and cultural issues in the work and lives of female psychologists.
• A course on Women’s Health issues is offered through the Nursing Department.

Concordia Benefits

• Students learn to comprehend and analyze complex issues and become more effective participants and leaders in their communities.
• Students have an opportunity to attend a leadership conference for college women.
• The Women’s Studies minor complements a variety of majors. Recent graduates have taken jobs as teachers, nurses, librarians, accountants, journalists, service volunteers, and as public relations and human services specialists.
