Concordia, not only will you learn to speak French, you will live it — in the classroom, in your residence and on trips to French-speaking countries. Concordia is a recognized leader in the development of language and cultural programs that emphasize practical experience. Concordia is well-known for having one of the largest number of language graduates of any American college or university.

When you graduate from Concordia with a French degree, you will have outstanding career opportunities in many professions. As global interdependence and opportunities for world travel increase, there is a critical need for people trained in international understanding to provide leadership and expertise in interacting with other countries and cultures.

Concordia Distinctions

• The French Department offers a broad range of courses leading to a major or minor with emphasis in either French literature or French studies and preparation for either K-8 or K-12 licensure for teaching French.
• The French program emphasizes the four skills of listening, speaking, reading and writing.
• Department courses provide insight into the cultures of the French-speaking world.

Concordia Benefits

• After providing a thorough grounding in oral and written communication, the department offers courses based on the needs and career plans of upper-level students, such as international business, international relations, literary studies, cultural studies and teaching.
• Faculty will assist students who wish to study for a semester or a year in France through the International Education Office.
• The French Department encourages language use as an integrative experience, so that whatever fields students enter, the ability to speak another language will open doors to further careers and experiences.French May Seminar Abroad
• Outstanding opportunity to meet French people and gain insight into their culture and lifestyles.
• Each year, new itineraries introduce students to different regions of France and issues of modern-day importance.
• The French May Seminar trains majors and minors how to travel on their own in France — a skill often useful in their future careers.
• A highlight of French May Seminars are homestays with French families who share their food and lifestyles, exchange ideas, make lifelong friendships and use language in a daily, relaxed atmosphere.
