Where is the Registrar's Office?
The Registrar's Office is located on the first floor of Lorentzsen
Hall (administration building) in the center of campus conveniently
located between two public parking lots at 901 8th St. S. in Moorhead.
The building is #18 on the campus map.
The office is open 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. (MTWTF) and 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
during the summer. The telephone number is (218) 299-3250.
What does the Registrar's Office do?
The Registrar's Office is responsible for all registration
procedures, assigning academic advisers, counseling students on course
selection, and determining degree completion requirements. All questions
about academic progress, graduation requirements, academic advisers,
grades and credits, are answered in this office.
The office evaluates the transcripts of transfer students, determines
the number of credits that will transfer to Concordia and their applicability
toward graduation requirements. The office also provides information
on testing and placement for graduate and professional school admissions.
The Registrar's Office provides official copies of student
transcripts for $2 per copy. Unofficial transcripts for student's
personal use are free.
The Registrar's Office provides forms for change of address;
change in adviser; change of grades, degree navigation audit, and
diploma preparation.When is registration for classes?
For returning students, registration is held twice a year near the
end of each semester for the upcoming semester.
For new students, pre-registration is held for several days in June
during Summer Advisement on the campus in Moorhead and in Minneapolis.
Once on campus for Orientation Week, registration is held in the
Olson Forum.
Students unable to pre-register will meet with faculty for advisement
and registration in the Olson Forum during orientation. Students
arriving on campus after orientation will be accommodated individually
at the Registrar's Office.
Maximum registration per semester is 4.25 credits. A "normal
load" is considered to be 4.0 credits. Applications for exceptions
to these rules are available from the Registrar's Office.
How
can I change my registration?
Students may revise their class schedules at the Registrar's
Office within the first five academic days of each semester without
filing the formal drop/add procedure.
After that date, to drop a class, students must obtain a drop/add
form at the Registrar's Office and have it signed by their
adviser and instructor before returning the form to the registrar.
A full-semester course may be dropped through the sixth academic
day after midsemester break. A block course (half a semester) may
be dropped through the 20th academic day of the block.

May
I repeat a course?
Yes. A course may be repeated if a student has earned a grade of
C- or below or a U (failing in pass/fail). All courses attempted
remain on the student's transcript but only the final grade
is computed into the GPA and credit is only earned once. Notify the
Registrar's Office to repeat a course.
How do I calculate my
GPA?
At Concordia, a full semester course is counted as 1.0 course credit
and is designed to occupy about one-fourth of a student's schedule.
A full load of classes is 4 or sometimes 4.25 per semester. Courses
bearing .5 or .25 credit fill correspondingly less time. Grade points
are the numerical measure of the quality of your work. An A equals
4.0; a B is 3.0; a C is 2.0 and so forth. See here
for the chart of grade points.
To calculate your grade point average (GPA), divide the total number
of grade points earned by the number of course credits attempted.
For example, a total of 12 grade points divided by 4 classes equals
3.0 or a B average.
How can I change my grade?
If your grade in a class has been incorrectly reported to the Registrar's
Office, a change of grade can be initiated by your course instructor.
Ask the instructor to approve and complete a "change of grade/removal
of incomplete" form and return it to the Registrar's
Office. Change of grade forms will not be released to students.
Do
I need a photo-ID for everything?
Your official Concordia ID card has your photo on it, and lists your
official ID number. This number is your personal protection when
registering for classes, and for protecting your records and preventing
unlawful access to your academic information. It is in your best
interests to always carry and use your ID. Your ID number is necessary
to check out books from the library and to order a transcript of
your grades.
Where can I find about the official requirements of the college?
You've come to the right place! The Concordia College Catalog lists
all the requirements and procedures for enrolling and maintaining
enrollment
at the college,
plus all
fees and the schedule of all classes. A hard copy of the catalog
is available at Summer Advisement for new students, and at registration
during
first
semester orientation in the Olson Forum. Copies may also be obtained
from the Admission's Office.
The Concordia College Directory, published by the Student Affairs
Office, contains the official student handbook of academic and social
policies, and a directory of all faculty and students. It is distributed
to all students midway through the fall semester.
What are my responsibilities
as a student?
To regularly attend class, actively engage in the academic life of
the college, and do honest and personal work free from any taint
of cheating or plagiarism. Regular attendance and participation in
class is crucial to a student's success at Concordia.
What should
I know about academic advising?
Basically, it's an opportunity to discuss your career and life
goals with someone who knows how to help you achieve them. Your adviser
will explain the benefits of a liberal arts education and help you
choose a course of study that will enable you to achieve your goals
and find a meaningful vocation. Your adviser is a source of information
and assistance. This student-faculty partnership is a continuous
process of communication, clarification and evaluation that will
help you tailor the many educational opportunities at Concordia to
your personal interests, abilities and needs.
Is orientation important?
Yes. Prior to the beginning of classes each fall, four days are dedicated
to orientation activities for new students. These days focus on preparing
students academically, socially and personally for making a positive
transition into college life. Students learn more about Concordia,
receive helpful advice for academic success, learn about course offerings,
register for classes and meet new people.
How and when do I pay for tuition, room and board?
Your fees are determined by the classes you register for and become
part of your data base in the Registrar's Office. This information
is transferred to the Business Office, which figures in your financial
aid and sends you a bill. You pay the bill at the Business Office. |
