CONCORDIA COLLEGE MOORHEAD MINNESOTA

MINNESOTA GRANT RECIPIENTS MUST REGISTER FOR 3.75 COURSES EACH SEMESTER

An Explanation of the Significance of This and the Procedure to Follow

if You Do Register for Fewer than 3.75 courses

In order to be eligible for full funding of your Minnesota Grant, you must register for at least 15 credits. This translates to 3.75 courses at Concordia (music lessons will count towards the 15 credits, provided you are registered for at least 3.0 academic courses, but ensembles such as choir do not). If you register for fewer than 3.75 courses, and you are eligible for a Minnesota Grant (requires Minnesota residency and financial need), your Minnesota Grant will be reduced. The reason this is significant is that Concordia defines a full-time student as one who is registered for 3.0 to 4.25 courses and tuition remains constant for full-time students. In other words, your Minnesota Grant is reduced, but your tuition remains the same.

Concordia will not replace a reduced or missing Minnesota Grant with a Concordia Grant.

If you register for fewer than 3.75 courses and you are receiving a Minnesota Grant, please notify the Financial Aid Office prior to the start of the semester. We can then make an appropriate adjustment of your financial aid. If you do not contact us and you register for fewer than 3.75 courses, the computer will automatically cancel your Minnesota Grant when account statements are first run each semester. When you receive your account statement, there will be a note on it telling you to contact the Financial Aid Office. Once you contact us, we will then reinstate your Minnesota Grant at the appropriate level. However, it is our hope that most of these adjustments can be made before account statements are run.

If you subsequently drop to fewer than 3.75 courses (after account statements are prepared), after having attended the dropped course(s), and remain at least at 3.0 courses, your financial aid, including the Minnesota Grant, will not be affected. Remember that after a certain date, dropped classes will appear on your official college transcript.

If you are taking fewer than 3.75 courses when account statements are first run each semester but subsequently add to 3.75, we can credit the entire Minnesota Grant at that time. It is your responsibility to inform us when this occurs because we are not automatically notified of this type of activity. Our hope is that most students will be at 3.75 courses when account statements are run, to eliminate this additional paperwork and confusion.

If you register for fewer than 3.0 courses, please make sure you notify the Financial Aid Office. If you don't, your financial aid will be completely canceled on your account statement.

Students must submit a FAFSA within 30 days of the start of the term at their school in order to receive a Minnesota Grant for that term.
