FACILITIES

The Fargo-Moorhead area, with a population of 175,000, is a healthcare hub for parts of four states.

* Three hospitals and numerous community-based agencies have made this area the largest healthcare center between Minneapolis and the West Coast.

* You will participate in clinical experiences at superior facilities, many of which are no more than 10 minutes from residence halls. This close proximity means you are able to enjoy and participate in campus activities.

ORGANIZATIONS

Nursing Student Association and Concordia Health Professions Interest Club bring in speakers, professional leaders and representatives from professional schools to provide updates on career opportunities, employment trends, current issues, admission to graduate schools and other topics.

* These groups are also service organizations, with opportunities to participate in community blood drives, blood-pressure screenings, food drives for local charities and a variety of research projects.

* You may be eligible to join Sigma Theta Tau International, an international honor society reflecting the nursing program’s commitment to scholarship, leadership and nursing research. Students are nominated for membership based on academic achievement.

PROFESSIONAL MAJOR IN NURSING
The baccalaureate nursing program is a nationally accredited four-year course of study leading to a baccalaureate of arts degree with a major in nursing. Upon successful completion of the program, the graduate is eligible to apply for licensure as a registered nurse (RN).

ADMISSION TO THE PROFESSIONAL MAJOR IN NURSING

The pre-nursing program is open to all high school graduates and college students wishing to pursue a nursing major. To enter the pre-nursing program, students must be admitted to Concordia College. Applicants should note that admission to the College does not grant admission to the professional nursing major.

The professional nursing program begins the spring semester of the sophomore year. Because state regulations require a specific student-faculty ratio in the clinical practicum, enrollment in the professional nursing program is limited and based on available resources and clinical placement availability. Therefore, admission is competitive and based on all of the following:
(1) Cumulative GPA of at least 2.7, (2) completion of the prerequisite courses with a passing grade, (3) eligibility for sophomore standing, (4) personal references, (5) impromptu essay, (6) a personal interview (upon request), and (7) submission of the completed application materials. Greater consideration will be given to students who have attended Concordia College for two semesters of full-time study.

For admission into the professional nursing program, a supplemental application must be submitted by April 15 of the freshman year to the Nursing Department. A minimum GPA of 2.7 (4.0=A) is required in all post-high school work to apply. Application forms may be obtained in the Nursing Department or by calling (218) 299-3879. Students will be notified of their admission status in May.

Students currently enrolled at Concordia in the pre-nursing program should consult with their nursing faculty adviser prior to the application deadline.

ACCELERATED MAJOR PROGRAM FOR COLLEGE GRADUATES

The accelerated program is an 18-month course of study leading to a major in nursing for students who have already completed a baccalaureate degree. The program begins in May and finishes 18 months later. Upon successful completion of the program, the graduate is eligible to apply for licensure as a registered nurse (RN)

ADMISSION TO THE ACCELERATED PROGRAM

The accelerated Nursing program is open to students who have already completed a baccalaureate degree at an accredited institution. To enter the accelerated program, students must apply to the college and be accepted into the nursing program. The application deadline is February 15 preceding the start of the program in May. Admission is competitive and is based on all of the following:

• GPA (minimum cumulative GPA of 2.7 )
