The Concordia Percussion
Ensemble
Dr. David
P. Eyler, Director
The Concordia Percussion Ensemble is a chamber music organization whose
members perform on the many and varied definite and indefinite pitched
instruments of the percussion family. The Percussion Ensemble is open
through audition to interested percussion students of all ability levels.
The group performs a wide variety of literature from the standard percussion
repertoire, as well as exciting new arrangements of popular, classical
and folk music. The Percussion Ensemble performs to enthusiastic audiences
throughout Minnesota, North Dakota and South Dakota during its spring
tour.
The Percussion Ensemble presented the world premier of "Bängala"
by David Childs in April of 2000, and featured saxophonist Russell
Peterson in the world premier of his "Concerto for Alto Saxophone and
Percussion Orchestra" at their December 2000 concert. Both of these
pieces are on the Percussion Ensemble's CD "Wood, Metal, Skin." The
Percussion Ensemble has been featured on Minnesota Public Radio's Eric
Friesen's "In The Music Room" and the "Regional Artists In Concert"
series. This ensemble has also been selected five times since 1989 to
perform at the Minnesota Music Educators Association Convention in the
Twin Cities.
This dynamic group enjoys tremendous popularity as one of the outstanding
percussion ensembles in the upper midwest. Dr. David P. Eyler, a member
of the Percussive Arts Society's Board of Directors and Percussion Ensemble
Committee, has been Director of the Percussion Ensemble since the fall
of 1987.
