The
Concordia Marimba Choir

Dr.David
P. Eyler, Director
The Concordia Marimba Choir was formed by Dr. David Eyler in the fall
of 1987 as an addition to the Percussion Ensemble program. These
talented marimbists are selected from the members of the Percussion
Ensemble. They perform literature ranging from transcriptions of works
by Bach, Mozart, and other great composers, to Latin American, pops,
ragtime and contemporary literature for keyboard percussion. The
Marimba Choir performs each semester along with the Percussion Ensemble
as well as at numerous civic and community events creating many
opportunities for public exposure.
The Marimba Choir has performed at state and regional conventions,
including five times at the Minnesota Music Educators Association
Convention since 1989, the Midwest Kodaly Music Educators of America,
the Land O' Lakes Barber Shop and the Regional American Guild of
Organists Conventions. Other special performances by the Marimba Choir
have included Silent Movie Night at the Fargo Theatre, North Dakota
Hospitality Association Awards Banquet, YWCA Woman of the Year Banquet,
KCCM Radio's Classical Music Festival, Red River Dance and Performing
Company's Murder Mystery Banquet, North Dakota State University's
Annual Fall Round-up, and the Concordia College Festival of Bands. In
the fall of 1996 the Marimba Choir was featured in a special
performance during a live radio broadcast for Minnesota Public Radio of
Eric Friesen's "In The Music Room." Selections from recent performances
by the Marimba Choir are included on their CD "Wood, Metal,
Skin."
