The Concordia College Band is one of the college's
oldest and most distinctive performing groups.
Established formally
in 1891, the band grew in three decades from a small group of performers
with mail-order instruments to a sophisticated organization with
an international reputation.
When the band traveled to Norway in 1935, it was the first Concordia
organization to tour abroad. Over the years, many Concordia Band members
have gone on to enjoy significant professional music careers and perform
in military bands throughout the country, as well as teach and conduct
school and college bands nationwide. In
addition to its frequent on-campus performances, the band tours annually
in the United States and regularly travels abroad. Its next international
performance tour is scheduled for May
2007, and will include performance and travel in Norway.
In 1999, The Concordia College Band celebrated its 100th
anniversary with a tour that included travel and performances in
Iceland, Russia, Estonia, Finland, Sweden and Norway.
The Concordia College Band has performed for the national
conventions of the Minnesota Music Educators Association and the
College Band Directors National Association. The Concordia College
Band has performed with many guest artists, including The Canadian
Brass, Allen Vizzutti and Juoko Harjanne, principal trumpet of the
Helsinki Radio Orchestra.
