This will be a dialogue session with David Batstone where he will discuss principles for creating integrity in organizations from his book.  David is the author of Saving the Corporate Soul - and (who knows) maybe your own, and is a well known national author and entrepreneur.  He was founding editor of the Business 2.0 magazine and is a contributor to the New York Times, Wired, and the Chicago Tribune.  He is the recipient of two national journalist awards.  Presently he is professor of ethics and religion at the University of San Francisco.  He is editor of Sojourner's magazine, the leading voice at the crossroads of politics, business, spirituality, and culture.

Jim is a very interesting entrepreneur who will discuss issues related to business ethics from a Native American perspective.  He is an enrolled member of the Turtle Mountain Band of Chippewa Indians.  His firm, Laducer & Associates, is 100% American Indian owned and provides information technology services.  He has worked in the past in providing consultation services to minority-owned small business in the central Midwest.  His business is one of the top employers in the state of North Dakota and he is one of the most prominent American Indian leaders and business person in the nation.

Howard will speak on corporate social responsibility regarding community interest, private gain, corporate conduct and CEO salaries.  Howard is a native of Gwinner, ND, President and CEO of Amity Technology, a manufacturer of farm machinery.  He received his B.S. in Business Administration from UND, did graduate work in philosophy at the University of Florida, and has an M.A. in Philosophy of Religion from Trinity Evangelical Divinity School.  He was named the Fargo-Moorhead Business Leader of the Year in 2005.

Description:
Richard Gilmore, author of the book Doing Philosophy at the Movies, will discuss the meaningful ethical lessons we can learn from the movies.  Themes from the movies, as viewed from a philosophical perspective, can speak to our lives in deeply and meaningful ways.  Philosophy and movies can be viewed as tools to understanding meaning, reflection, and examining the possibilities of life.  It deals with intensity, understanding, and growth  Gilmore will introduce a philosophical framework, definitions, examine a couple of scenes from specific movies, and involve the audience in discussion.  Richard Gilmore is an associate professor of philosophy at Concordia College.

Tom Heuerman is a thoughtful and excellent speaker.  He will speak about ethical leadership and how our values may be the only constant in a world experiencing accelerating change.  Tom serves as a consultant to organizations and individuals.  He is also an author and writes about issues of life, leadership and organizations.  His first career was a special agent in the United States Secret Service where he protected presidents and foreign dignitaries.

Description:
The ethical issues with Wal-Mart are complex.  As the largest corporation in the world, it has a great deal of power and influence on society.  Stakeholders who are affected by Wal-Mart include consumers who benefit from lower prices, suppliers who may be pressured to conform to stringent policies, communities who loose local businesses, and employee issues related to fair labor.  Patty Corwin teaches sociology at NDSU where she has won awards for her excellence in teaching and in service learning, and has presented hundreds of educational seminars.  She will present several different perspectives and lead a discussion on the ethical implications.
