History.
- Our organization has grown to include
13 world languages: Chinese,
Danish,
English,
Finnish,
French,
German,
Italian,
Japanese,
Korean,
Norwegian,
Russian,
Spanish,
Swedish.
- Approximately 9,500 young people ages
7 to 18 from all 50 states, Canada, and over 25 countries
attend the Villages each year.
- Immersion is the key for successful
learning at the Villages. Because language learning
is so carefully programmed into all aspects of the
immersion experience, drawing on all the senses, it
becomes a real part of villagers' lives and thoughts.
- The first culturally authentic site
to be built was Skogfjorden, the Norwegian
Language Village. Four more authentic Language Village
sites have since been built: French,
German,
Finnish,
and Spanish.
- Concordia Language Villages has expanded
around the world. There is now a Global
Language Villages in China and an English
Language Village in Switzerland.
- Concordia Language Villages is sponsored
by Concordia College
of Moorhead, Minn.,
a private four-year liberal arts college.
