TEACHER SEMINAR/GRADUATE COURSE ED 565: Second Language Methodologies for Teachers   (3 credits, Concordia College, Moorhead, Minn.) Join language teachers from across the United States for a ten-day summer seminar at the Villages. Learn how to adapt our immersion techniques to your classroom setting!   Village Production Page With an emphasis on immersion methodologies and their application to the second language classroom, seminar participants visit the Language Villages to see the immersion teaching principles in action. For a half-day the participants become villagers at one of the Scandinavian Language Villages to experience what it is like to be a beginning language learner. In other Village visits, seminar participants can observe and participate in a variety of activities including canoeing, gardening, dance, theatre, baking, and art all taught in the second language.   COURSE REQUIREMENTS Graduate course requirements include development of a thematic unit incorporating methods and strategies learned at the Villages, completion of a resource binder and resource file of activities and methodologies used at the Villages, and participation in class discussions based on readings related to second language learning.   ELIGIBILITY The course is open to all K-12 second language educators including ESL educators, college educators with an interest in K-12 second language methodologies, and pre-service education majors.   REGISTRATION Please complete the Summer Application filling in only name, address, telephone number, e-mail, session code, and birthdate (required for graduate credit enrollment.) All applications for Teacher Seminars must be accompanied by a $140 deposit.   SCHOLARSHIPS The Goethe-Institut/AATG scholarships are available to German teachers nationwide. The Central States Conference on the Teaching of Foreign Languages offers a partial scholarship to language teachers from its 17-state region. Seminars Name Dates Session Code Cost Teacher Seminar July 5-15, 2005 TB42 $1,290 ABOUT THE INSTRUCTOR Donna Danièle Clementi is the curriculum associate for Concordia Language Villages and is dean of Teacher Seminars. Clementi has been on staff at Concordia Language Villages for 30 years and is fluent in French. EDUCATION She earned her bachelor’s degree in French from St. Olaf College, Northfield, Minn., and her master’s degree in curriculum development from the University of Wisconsin, Milwaukee. TEACHING EXPERIENCE Clementi is a French teacher at Appleton West High School, Appleton, Wis., and is foreign language program leader for the Appleton schools. She also serves as vice-chair of the Central States Conference on the Teaching of Foreign Languages. AWARDS In 2002, Clementi received the WAFLT Distinguished Foreign Language Educator Award. In 2001, Clementi received ACTFL’s Florence Steiner Award for K-12 leadership in foreign languages. In 1990, she was awarded a Certificate of Recognition for Outstanding Contributions to Foreign Language Education; a Certificate of Merit for Contributions to the Promotion of the Study of French in Wisconsin; and the Mielke Outstanding Educator Award. In 1988, she received the Kings Daughters Outstanding Educator Award, and in 1987 she was a Rockefeller Fellow.
