Schedule of Events |
Small Group Sessions |
1. I Will Live Among God’s People
Kristin Ruud
Program Director, Shetek Lutheran Ministries, Slayton, Minn.
Past Lutheran Volunteer Corp Member in Baltimore
“Jesus loves me this I know” may sound a bit childish to you, but we do tend to think of faith as simply being about “God and me.” Explore together with Ruud what living among God’s faithful people looks like when faith moves beyond God and us to our neighbors.
2. Hear God’s Word, Share in His Supper
Rev. Jeff Sandgren
Senior Pastor, Olivet Lutheran Church, Fargo, N.D.
Sandgren believes the church is often asleep, but the wide-awake youth (who are consciously digging into a faith that will compel them for their whole lives) can help wake the sleeping giant. They know that hearing God’s word and sharing Christ’s supper is the place to begin.
3. Proclaim the Good News of Jesus in Word and Deed
Rev. Paul Hadland
Pastor, Augustana Lutheran Church, Fergus Falls, Minn.
Hadland and his puppet friends Clem, Martin Luther Fox, Quala Bear and Rockin’ Roger (the dog who knows the Lord) makes a straight-forward appeal for youth to proclaim the good news of God in Jesus Christ through word and deed.
4. Serve All People According to Their Needs
Rachel Clarke
YWCA Cass Clay
Hear about the needs of women and children in sheltered housing, while assembling transitional kits for women who leave the shelter for permanent housing. Note: Groups are invited to bring materials with them to the session. Items include kitchen and bath towels, bed sheets, kitchen utensils, dishes and silverware, pots and pans, brooms and mops, cleaning supplies, basic home tool kits and more.
5. Strive for Justice and Peace
Rev. John Hulden
Pastor, Trinity Lutheran Church, Moorhead
Who wants to help poor people? “I okely-dokely-schmokely do!” says Hulden. Blessed with a striking resemblance to Homer Simpson’s neighbor Ned Flanders, Hulden will lead groups through discussions of charity and justice, and what it means to strive for justice and peace.
Additional Presenters |
Bishop Larry Wohlrabe
Northwestern Minnesota Synod, ELCA
With a big heart for the youth of the church, Wohlrabe’s opening message will inspire and challenge youth to follow Jesus, give themselves to a life of service and get caught up in God’s great, global rescue mission.
Rev. Bruce Anderson
Director of Church Relations, Concordia College
Anderson coordinates the annual Confirmation Enrichment event and looks forward to meeting the youth each year and helping them prepare for affirmation of baptism.
