Our History and Foundation

The Call to Serve Project was funded in January 2002 by Lilly Grant Endowment, Inc. for a five- year period.  Call to Serve is a direct response to the new Lilly Endowment Theological Exploration of Vocation Program established in 2001 to support church-related liberal arts colleges and university to:

  • Identify and nurture a new generation of highly talented and religiously committed leaders,
  • Assist students in examining the relationship between their faith and vocational choices, and to
  • Provide opportunities for young people to explore Christian ministry as their life's work.

Concordia College, Moorhead, Minnesota was established in 1891 and has maintained a tradition of viewing education as a means to influence the world in God's behalf.  Vocation, in this contest, celebrates a whole person involvement in society as a means to be co-creator with God in the stewardship of the earth.  Faith and learning are interconnected in all disciplines of study on campus.  The Call to Serve Project seeks to honor and build on this heritage.
