| The Biology Dept. is teaming up with the Global Education Office to form a collaborative venture with the African Wildlife Foundation. This is actually a long, exciting story. Here we give the short version and will fill in the details later. Because of this collaboration with AWF, the Biology Department anticipates the opportunity to place two students this summer as research assistants to work with Dr. Alfred Kikoti in Tanzania for 8 to 10 weeks. The research site is in the West Kilimanjaro region of Tanzania. The study site is beautiful, if somewhat isolated. This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to be directly involved in an important Tanzanian wildlife research project. Students selected for this project will receive a research stipend of $2,800 to $3,500, just as those chosen for campus research projects. We are now taking applications for these two positions. To apply, provide a resume, and a short narrative of why you wish to participate in this research, and why you are a good candidate. Bring your application to the Biology Office (Mrs, Hagen) ASAP. We may try to have Dr. Kikoti interview potential candidates while he is here on Feb. 7 and 8. | |
| Dr. Kikoti and other AWF personnel will be here to make a presentation on this research on Thursday, February 7, at 7:00 PM. We do not yet know where the presentation will be held, but we will send out notice of it as soon as we find out. Even if you do not intend to apply, I know you will find Dr. Kikoti's presentation very interesting. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me in person or via email. | |
