GUIDELINES FOR
ASSESSMENT MINI-GRANTS
1999-2000
Introduction: In response to feedback we have received from faculty members, the Assessment Committee will award mini-grants to assist departments with their assessment efforts. The purpose of the assessment mini-grants is to encourage departments and programs to conduct meaningful assessment efforts. Grant funds can be used for program assessment (measuring student achievement of learning goals) but not for assessment of individual courses.
All programs/departments are eligible for grant funds. We would
especially like to encourage departments that are not currently conducting
assessment activities to apply for funding. Grant
funds must be expended by April 30, 2000. In April we
will announce the submission process for additional grant funds that will
be available for the next fiscal year.
Grant Proposals: Proposals should be between 1-2 pages in length and should address:
1. The purpose (objectives) of the grant and how it relates to
student outcomes.
2. How the grant activity and objectives relate to departmental/programmatic
assessment plans.
3. A budget (including the amount of money that will be matched
by your department or
program, if applicable).
4. How the assessment activity will be continued beyond the grant
period.
Requirements: The requirements for the assessment mini-grants are:
1. The mini-grant activity must be related to development and implementation
of your plans for
assessing student outcomes.
2. The assessment projects should be supported by the department/program
and should not be
an individual faculty member’s project.
3. A copy of the current departmental/programmatic assessment plan
(or a brief description of
the plan) should be submitted with the
grant application.
4. Each department/program that is awarded an assessment mini-grant
must complete a BRIEF
report of the outcomes achieved and the funds
expended. The report must be submitted to
the Office of Assessment by June 15, 2000.
Budget: Funds may be used for developing or purchasing assessment tools, data processing, duplication, mailings, faculty stipends and for student help. Grant money cannot be used for computers or equipment. The maximum amount awarded will be $500.
Proposal Reviews: Proposals will be reviewed (based on the criteria listed above) by members of the Assessment Committee.
Timeline: Send grant proposals to Kay Schneider by Monday, January 24. Awards will be announced in early February. Grant funds must be expended by April 30, 2000.
