CSTA:  Create rubrics, analyze data collected in spring 2007, revise past methods, revisit objectives/outcomes/measures.

 

English:  Identify goals, outcomes, and strategies for assessing IWC portfolios.

 

English literature:  Assessment of program.

 

Nursing:  Implement Assessment Technologies Institute (ATI) assessment and review program to prepare students for NCLEX exams.

 

Philosophy:  Review portfolios, develop evaluations of portfolios, and prepare summary of findings.

2006-2007

 

Business:  Four subgroups/subdisciplines of faculty members will use rubrics to review assessment information, including exams, papers, cases, presentations, and preceptor evaluations.

Chemistry:  Discuss the new faculty line in light of the external review, the new College curriculum, the departmental learning objectives, results of this year’s ETS Major Field Test, and results of the American Chemical Society Standardized tests. Evaluate the newly designed curriculum goals/learning outcomes and consider how they may impact the department.

Classical Studies:  Tabulate, interpret, and discuss assessment information (including exams, surveys, and portfolios) collected over the past year.

Education:  Develop an assessment feedback form for classroom supervisors at all clinical levels.

English:  Engage in syllabi review with the intent of more effectively conveying goals/student learning outcomes and improving students’ understanding of the expectations for English courses.

French:  Faculty will participate in a retreat to develop and implement an assessment plan.

Math/Computer Science:  Revise mission statements, modify assessment plans, create assessment timelines, and plan for implementation of the new assessment efforts in fall 2006.

Music:  Develop and implement a plan to assess private music lessons.

Nursing:  Review and revise current documentation of our departmental assessment and provide evidence of how the department follows through and utilizes assessment findings.

Philosophy:  Review portfolios, develop a written assessment of each student, and prepare a summary report for department-wide discussion.

Political Science:  Develop a rubric for the assessment of take-home written exams in the 411 course, to use the rubric to assess the exams, and to have discussions about your findings.

Social Work:  Measure, analyze, discuss, and report program on your assessment plan.

Sociology:  Develop strategies and implement them in response to external consultant's recommendations.

Spanish:    Develop new procedures for implementing the case study and administer modified oral proficiency interviews.

2005-2006

 

Biology:  Purchase major field test.

Chemistry:  Discuss field exam and ACS exam results in the context of external review and curriculum revision.

Classical Studies:  Faculty will meet for three days to determine learning outcomes and develop an assessment plan to assess the outcomes.

Education:  Develop new assessment methods to assess scientific-based reading instruction.

English:  Review assessment information, draft a new curriculum, and develop curriculum proposals for submission to appropriate committees.

Nursing:  Faculty retreat for administration, analysis, and communication of results of two assessment surveys and standardized tests.  The department would like time for developing/enhancing the assessment plan for the graduate nursing program.

Philosophy:  Review portfolios, use a rubric to evaluate the portfolios, develop a written assessment of each student, and prepare a summary report for department-wide discussion.

Principia:  Establish inter-rater reliability for the assessment of final projects and write a comprehensive report of results.

Psychology:  Discuss the past year's assessment results, compare these results with previous years, and consider possible curriculum changes. 

Religion:  Honorarium for a colleague to conduct interviews and write a report of results.

Social Work:  Disseminate the alumni survey and employer survey, for data entry, analysis of results, and discussion of changes to be made as a result of the assessment activities.

Spanish:  Prepare report of assessment results.

Biology:  Purchase Biology Major Field Test.
   
Chemistry:  Review the past year’s assessment results (ACS standardized test and the Field Test), assess capstone course, examine role in new curriculum, and purchase standardized exams. 
   
Discourse Speaking:  Review speeches from Discourse 109, prepare a written report of the findings, and discuss how the information may be used to improve student learning.

Discourse Writing:  Develop rubric, assess essays, and discuss results.     
   
Education:  Consider revisions of curriculum to address needs identified by assessment activities.
   
English:  Convene a departmental retreat to share assessment data and discuss possible curricular changes.

History:  Read History 410 research papers, discuss results of this assessment activity, revise the assessment plan, and discuss recommendations/next steps resulting from the self study.
 
Music:  Align learning goals with course syllabi as part of the department's beginning efforts to develop an assessment plan.
 

Nursing:  Discuss assessment results for the two surveys and the standardized tests and design assessment strategies for the new graduate program.

Philosophy:  Review the current assessment plan, evaluate the plan's design and execution, and consider new initiatives.

Principia:  Establish inter-rater reliability for the scoring method, assess 52 final projects, and write a report of results.

Chemistry:  Administration of ETS field test.  Review the past year’s assessment results, modify the assessment plan for the Seminar course, and discuss a new format for the capstone course

English:  Assessment of writing portfolios and discussion of how results can be used to modify the major.

Family and Nutrition Sciences:  Review assessment results, evaluate new assessment tools, develop new assessment methods, and discuss uses of assessment information.

French:  Review upper-level student papers and conduct oral proficiency interviews.

Health/Physical Education:  Review of assessment data, review findings of the self study process, and development of initial steps in implementing curricular changes.

History:  Review the research logs (to assess bibliographical research skills) for History 410 Research Seminar.  Discuss the implications for curriculum and teaching methods.

Music:  Develop an assessment plan for the Music Department, including a computerized exam and aural exam.

Nursing:  Revision of one year and five year alumni surveys, revision of assessment plan to reflect new initiatives, analysis of critical thinking test results, and analysis of data from standardized tests, preceptor evaluations and employer surveys.

Sociology:  Hire external consultant to conduct focus groups of graduating seniors. 

Spanish:   Discuss self study findings, review assessment plan, and modify curriclum. 

Women's Studies Program:  Review the current assessment plan, review other institutions’ assessment plans, and possibly revise the assessment plan for the Women’s Studies Program.

Biology:  Purchase major field exams.

Chemistry:  Discuss results of several assessment activities, discuss modifying seminar course to include assessment activities, and compile a report of assessment activities.

Computer Science:  Revise student learning goals, align those goals with upcoming assessment activities, and develop plans to implement assessment in 2001-02.

Communication Studies and Theatre Art:  Assessment of students' ability to think theoretically and express themselves using discipline-specific vocabulary in "theory" courses.

English Writing:   Assess students' poetry, manuscript, and nonfiction writing portfolios.

Family Nutrition Science:   Review alumni survey results and other assessment results for each of the three FNS
programs. Develop a plan to continue assessment and curriculum revision for 2001-02.

History:   Implement assessment of the senior capstone course. Hold a faculty retreat to discuss results of the
assessment, define strategies for improving students' skills, and develop an alumni survey.

Library:   Identify, based on ACRL standards, information literacy standards for integration into a sample of Discourse
classes. Develop strategies to pilot test newly designed information literacy assignments in several sections of Discourse
fall semester of 2001.  Conduct analysis of surveys and bibliographies to assess library instruction.

Math:   Revise student learning goals, align those goals with upcoming assessment activities, and develop plans to implement assessment in 2001-02.

Nursing:   Administer, analyze, and communicate results of two surveys and two tests which are components of
the department's assessment plan.

Physics:   Implement portfolio assessment for majors and minors.

Principia:   Develop and administer a survey of student learning outcomes to assess the Principia film series.

Psychology:   Evaluate assessment data, re-evaluate the assessment plan, and work to ensure that faculty ratings of
critical thinking measures are consistent.

Social Work:  Purchase alumni survey instruments, purchase values inventory instruments, reimbursement for mailing
costs for alumni survey, and sponsor membership in BEAP.

Spanish:  Create primary trait analysis for use in analyzing pre- and post-business writing samples.  Conduct assessment of the study abroad program at the University of Navarra, including revision of a questionnaire and development of primary trait analysis for assessment of literature papers.

Theatre: Implement assessment of student portfolios for theatre majors.
