The Orland J. Rourke Memorial Lecture Series is held each spring in honor of Orland Rourke, longtime professor of art at Concordia College. Orland was known for the breadth of his artwork in painting, sculpture, ceramics and collage, and for the dedication to teaching which he showed throughout his career. According to Assistant Professor of Art History Peter Schultz, "We are honoring one of Concordia's greatest teachers."

The Orland J. Rourke Memorial Lecture Series in the Philosophy and History of Art began in 2005, grown from research which began with projects in Art History courses in fall 2004. The series is co-sponsored by the Department of Philosophy and the Department of Art, and directed by Professors Richard Gilmore, Philosophy, and Peter Schultz, Art. Series lecturers are selected based upon the quality of their projects, with focus upon groundbreaking and pioneering research, translation, and intertpretation.
