HEIDI GOLDBERG graduated with a B.A. from Hamline University in 1990. She majored in studio art with a concentration in printmaking, and minored in French, studying in France her junior year. Following a year-long art apprenticeship, she went on to earn her M.F.A in printmaking and works on paper from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor in 1993. Her interest in mixed media began with intaglio and gradually branched out to include other technical processes in printmaking, and mixed media. She has received three Bush Foundation Grants to pursue work in Fiber Art and Photography. Goldberg has exhibited works in numerous national and international juried exhibitions, including Mid-Atlantic Small Print Exhibition, Pressed and Pulled, Mid-America Print Council Juried National Print Exhibition, The First International Print Biennial Maastricht, Maastricht, The Netherlands, and The 13th Mini Print International, Cadaques, Spain and Wingfield, U. K. Her works are included in numerous private and public collections throughout the region. Goldberg joined the Art department faculty in 1995. She lives and maintains a studio near Walcott, North Dakota.

| "Through
frequent exploration of nature and landscape, I enjoy developing
interpretations and multiples of places through series or suites
of mixed media works (including printmaking, photography, drawing,
fibers, and painting). I combine source material from observation,
memory, association, imagination, and experimentation with perception
to build works that are multi-layered in concept and technique. I
very much enjoy merging the concrete physical and conscious methods
of the work with the more mysterious aspects of the creative process. These pieces from a recent series of works represent a convergence of a number of streams of work influenced by the landscape in which I live. The uncontrolled experiment references both the creative process in making the work and the effects of humanity on the landscape; the overarching uncontrolled experiment in this case is that of global warming." |
