June 2003
Greetings to the class of 1993!
Its my pleasure to bring the 10th annual class letter to you from St. Louis Park, MN. I spent the night at the park with my 20-month-old son, my husband and my dog. The weather has been beautiful and tonight was no exception but more importantly the fresh air helped to ease my son into bed and fall asleep much easier than the cooped up Minnesota winter nights that we spent inside. So what if I have some selfish motives heading to the park, everyone has a good time and bedtime is less of a struggle for everyone (is anyone relating yet?). I share this story as I think about how my life and I would imagine many of yours have changed since our 1993 graduation from Concordia.
For those of you who havent figured out it is our 10th year reunion this fall. Of course with the mix up in the winter letter some of you may be wondering, exactly what weekend is Homecoming?! Mark your calendars and book your hotel rooms for October 3 5. A Harvest of Memories is the theme and I am sure there are many of you thinking back to some of your memories of our time at Concordia (we arent old enough to be forgetting yet). I think about my junior year and the day my roomies and I (we lived a block off campus in a house) woke up to about 30 pumpkins on our front steps (Peer and Thad do you know anything about those?). I am sure our gifts were at the disappointment of the many kids who spent hours carving only to awaken to them being gone and then going by our place to see us have not only their pumpkin but everyone elses in the neighborhood on our steps which by the way stayed there until about April when someones little sis from one of the societies (I think they are still called that) had to come and clean up the mushy pumpkins. Anyway, start thinking of those memories and be ready to share and relive some good stories at our 10-year reunion.
I want to highlight some of the activities that will be going on during Homecoming. On Friday night, they are trying something new. Classes from the 90s will be having a gathering starting at 9:00 PM at the Plains Art Museum in downtown Fargo. This is an opportunity for people to meet up not only with people from their class but to also mingle with classmates from other 90s classes. I would encourage you to go. This would make for a great meeting place for people coming to town on Friday evening. Other events Friday evening include the Banquet and Harvest Ball.
Saturday morning we have a reunion breakfast. While we had a modest turnout for our 5-year it was fun to catch up with people and it was very informal. I think the early start time at 8:00 was a deterrent for some. This year the breakfast will start at 9:00. I know I will appreciate the extra hour of sleep. The time also works well for those going to the parade you can come to the breakfast then head over to the parade at 11:00. The football game against Augsburg will fill the afternoon with the Homecoming Show and Dance that evening.
After conferring with a few classmates we thought that we would designate Coaches (previously know as the T aka Trader and Trapper) as an informal meeting place on Saturday night. I have reserved space for our class beginning at 8:00 that evening. I was going to check into The Underground but then I remember that it closed sometime around our sophomore/junior year. Hey, I know I saw many of you there too!
You can round out the weekend with worship at 10:30 on Sunday.
The Class Fund Challenge
Financial support for many organizations has been down over the past two years and Concordia hasnt been any different. With the difficult economy and the War in Iraq times have been uncertain. I know that some of you may have friends and family who may have served or have in someway been affected by the way our prayers go out to you. I also want to express my gratitude on behalf of the college for all of your giving efforts.
Our class actually had low participation compared to prior years. We had 14.2% of our class give for a total of $5,138.32. Again, we so much appreciate the gifts that were contributed knowing that every dollar counts and helps to support Concordia. Every person counts as well and if we could get at least 30% of our class donating it would make a big impact.
Enclosed you will find a special envelope addressed to the 10th Reunion Class Gift. In honor of our 10th class reunion, please consider a gift to the college of any size. All gifts received between May 1, 2002 and September 1, 2003 will count towards our gift. The total amount will be announced during the Friday night Homecoming Banquet.
You can now be a C-400 Investor by making a gift of $400 during one fiscal year (May 1-April 30). For gifts of $1000, $2,500, $5,000 and $10,000 during one fiscal year, you will be a Bronze, Silver, Gold or Platinum Investor. A letter and brochure with all the details will be mailed later this summer. If you have questions, please call Searle at the Annual Giving Office, 299-3459 or 800-699-9020.
All right, time to see what our classmates have been up to the past year
getting married, having children, and other newsworthy events!
