July 2006
Dear Class of 1991,
Summer Greetings!
This is the final installment of the ’91 class letter until we officially kick off our 15-year class reunion at Homecoming 2006, “Combining the Years,” on October 13-15. I am truly excited to see as many of you as possible this fall.
You may be noticing a new format to the class letter this time around! Pretty nice, huh? Take some extra time to look through all of the information contained in the nifty packet. There is a lot of info included in there that I don’t cover in my letter! Enjoy!
As my letter in March indicated, there are many fun activities in store for us during that special weekend. Beginning Friday evening from 5-7 p.m., there will be a casual gathering time at the Days Inn in Moorhead. It is located on the southwest corner of I-94 and Highway 75 (8th Street). Following that, there is a show at Courtney’s Comedy Club located within the Days Inn. The cost of tickets is $10 and you must make your own arrangements through the Days Inn. As this is not an official Concordia-sponsored activity, I would love to get an idea of who plans to attend this event. If it is just going to be my husband and I, he will be easy to recognize! J Otherwise, I would love to know who will be there. Please email me at btmesselt@cableone.net or give me a call at (218) 233-3865 if you are planning to be a part of the Friday evening event at the Days.
On Saturday morning, we are privileged to have to a reunion breakfast provided for us at 9:00 a.m. During this breakfast, we will have time to visit and share with each other. There will be no official program for this time ~ just good stories to remember and lives to catch up on! In addition to the breakfast, there will be a casual picnic from 3-5 p.m. at Riverview Park in South Moorhead. Plan to bring your own lunch/dinner and drinks to the event. If there is a dish that you would like to bring to share in addition to your meal, you may do so. However, given that a good percentage of us are from out of town, nothing is expected. Hence the “bring your own” concept! There is a playground for the kids and bathroom facilities. The park is located at 3801 5th St. S. If it happens to rain that day, the picnic is cancelled.
The rest of Saturday is a smorgasbord of fun activities for you and your families. One thing to point out is the change in timing of the Homecoming concert. Normally placed on the Sunday schedule, the concert will now take place on Saturday evening at 6:30 p.m. Please check the inserts to see what you don’t want to miss and what you need tickets for. Tickets for other Concordia events are available in advance through the Alumni Office.
I also want to remind all of you of the resource available at www.cord.edu/alumni. If you are curious about specific events, just want to submit a class note, or just poke around, this is the place to stay connected.
Last, but certainly not least, I know we have all recently received post cards and mailers from Pam and Joel Peterson, who are the chairpersons for our reunion fundraiser. They graciously stepped up to help remind us of the commitment needed from each one of us to support the dream of so many other “Future Cobbers.” What a tremendous gesture it would be for us, the Class of 1991, to give a substantial gift to the college in honor of our 15-year reunion. It is always important to give, but I am especially encouraging you to do so this year. Five dollars or $5,000…you decide what is right for you. If you have already given, thank you! If you have not, please consider making Concordia a priority this year. It can be done very easily online!
Now for a few Cobber updates. Each year that I have done this letter, I have dreaded this section as it usually means a lot of additional typing (not a personal favorite of mine) and some creative handwriting deciphering (obviously not a favorite either). This year, however, they have begun to dummy it up for me. The class updates now come in a typed format that is easy to read. I still have the requisite typing, but the hieroglyphics are far easier to comprehend! Sadly, the typing isn’t all that much this time around. There is a very spare number of updates with this letter. It would be easy to assume that nothing is happening to us, but not terribly plausible. What is going on in your life? Truly… we would love to share in your successes and changes. Let’s hear from you! You can update the college on the fun changes in your life electronically, by phone or via snail mail. I, for example, am just going to cheat a bit right now. In just 28 days, we will welcome baby number three to our family. After a 7-year hiatus, I haven’t decided if we are brave or nuts. But we are definitely excited. My 7- and 8-year-old girls vacillate between euphoria and fear. We are hoping that the arrival with bring more joy!
