June 2003
Dear 1988 Classmates:
Are you ready to celebrate the passing of 15 years since our Concordia graduation?
We will be gathering to reminisce about the wind and dirt on graduation day, in addition to many other fond memories, at Homecoming 2003! Plan now to visit the campus October 3-5, 2003, to see how your old college friends and faculty members are doing.
Reunion Information
As mentioned in the mailing earlier this year, we have reserved a block of rooms at the CMon Inn in Fargo. To reserve a room, call 800-334-1570 and mention you are a part of the Concordia College Reunion Class of 1988. The rooms will be released about a month before Homecoming if they are not booked, so call now to make sure you have a place to stay. For more information about the hotel, see www.cmoninn.com. A list of other hotel options was sent previously.
There are lots of events planned for Homecoming weekend.
Sunday, October 5
Class of 1988 Family Gathering at Alm Park in Moorhead (Sign up at Class of 1988 Registration Table in Memorial Auditorium. Potluck picnic with small fee to cover expenses.) starting at noon.
Class Challenge Update
As a way of honoring our class and 15th reunion, please make a donation to Concordias annual fund this year. Our donations show the appreciation we have for the work the college does and ensures the strength of the college in future years. Our donations keep costs down so more young people can afford a quality Concordia education to start their life-long journey.
For the last fiscal year, our class came in last place for the classes of the 1980s with 127 of 505 responding (25.1 percent), giving a total of $7,559.28. The top participation class was 1985 with 35 percent and the top dollar class was 1983 with $22,546.24.
C-400 Project 16 was successfully completed April 30, 2003. Beginning May 1, 2003, C-400 is an annual gift of $400 or more, given during the fiscal year (May 1 April 30) instead of pledges over a period of years. A letter and brochure with a full explanation of the changes will be mailed to you later this summer. If you have questions, please call the Annual Giving Office at 299-3454 or 800-699-9020.
In Memory
It is with a saddened heart we report another of our classmates has passed away during the past year. The Vail Trail newspaper reports that Jon Efraimson died on February 18, 2003, after a short but valiant fight with lung cancer. It was also reported that Jon was married to Lisa Land in June 2002, lost a child named Owen Daniel Efraimson due to premature birth in June 2002, and was diagnosed with stage four Adenocarcinoma in July 2002.
Jon, known in Vail and to friends at Concordia as Eef, owned Eef Productions in Vail and was active in the community both personally and through his company. The Vail Trail quoted Kate Carey, director of the Vail Valley Charitable Fund, as saying, Over the years, he has contributed selflessly to a myriad of non-profit causes. Now its our turn to try to help him to the extent we can (by holding a fundraiser on November 9, 2002).
If you would like to read more about the last year of Jon Efraimsons life, links to the stories we found on The Vail Trail are listed below:
