“Old friends are best: where can you find a new friend that has stood by you as long as the old ones have?” Proverb

Greetings Class of 1970!                                                                                         June 2005

I hope that this letter finds all of you enjoying the warm and sunny days of summer, as well as finding time to relax during them.

It is finally summer weather here in Moorhead.  We have had a lot of rain so everything is really green.  The days are long and life is good!!

With this year being our 35th Homecoming Reunion, I am hoping that many of you are planning to come to Moorhead this fall for the weekend of September 30-October 2.  As you can see from the enclosure, Concordia has many events (ie: dinners, parade, football game, concerts, etc.) planned on campus.

I have also made arrangements for a block of rooms at the Day’s Inn, 600 30th Ave. S., Moorhead, 218-287-7100; for meeting, anytime after 8:00 p.m. on Friday and Saturday night, at the Radisson Lounge, 201 5th St. N., Fargo; and for meeting after the football game at the Red Bear Grill and Tavern, 700 1st Ave. N., Moorhead.  Along with the Reunion Breakfast on Saturday morning, there should be plenty of opportunities to “connect” with classmates during the weekend.  If you have an idea for an “entry” in the Homecoming Parade, from the Class of 1970; an Emcee for the breakfast; or any other ideas for making the weekend a memorable one, please let me know. You can contact me through the Alumni Office, or send me an e-mail at dhsillers@corpcomm.net.

The College has received the following news about classmates:

Bernard Belling, died in April, 2004.  Please keep Bernie’s wife, Carol, St. Cloud, MN, in your thoughts.

Dianne (Nordin) Eraker, ’63, died in March.  Please keep her husband Jim, Boulder, CO, in your thoughts, as well.

Don Idso, Glendive, MT, was named a 2004 National Distinguished Principal by a program sponsored, in part, by the U.S. Department of Education.

Larry Sonju, retired after 17 years as Principal of the High School in Red Wing, MN, and the school’s gymnasium was renamed the “Larry Sonju Gymnasium” in his honor.

Evelyn (Guttromson) Gedde, is currently the Director of Institutional Advancement for Anoka-Ramsey Community College, Coon Rapids, MN.

Concordia continues to grow and appreciates financial contributions, referrals of potential students and your prayers.  Hopefully, you will be able to come back for this year’s Homecoming weekend to visit the College, share “stories” and renew old friendships. In making your decision to return for Homecoming, think about this proverb: “A true friend laughs at your stories even when they’re not so good, and sympathizes with your troubles even when they’re not so bad.” Proverb

In peace, friendship and another proverb to remember: “When friends meet, hearts warm.”
