June 2006

Dear ’66 Cobbers,

Exciting things are happening at Concordia. President Pamela Jolicoeur is a tireless and enthusiastic promoter of the college and has recruited excellent leaders to assist her. Recently she and Concordia were featured at an international education meeting in D.C., hosted by the Secretaries of State and Education. Concordia is among the top ten colleges sending students abroad, and the Concordia Language Villages have really put us on the map. Construction of the new campus center, which will have students dining above ground for the first time in history, is progressing ahead of schedule and will open by spring 2007, with completion targeted for the following fall. Good coaches are drawing gifted student athletes to continue the Cobber sports tradition. Concordia also supplies more candidates for ministry in the ELCA than any other Lutheran school. All of these accomplishments are reasons for us to continue—and increase—our support for the college.

TO-DO LIST FOR THE CLASS OF ‘66

1. Send class notes to share your news with your classmates. These are the latest:

James Jorgenson, Austin MN, retired as senior vice president of corporate staff after 35 years with Hormel Foods Corporation.

Joyce (Bartels) Lins, Orlando FL, retired after 40 years of teaching elementary school and special education.

2. Recommend a talented student to the talented admissions counselors—they’ll do the rest.

3. Make a gift to Concordia. Once again our class has won the award for total dollars given, and that’s great!  But starting next year the annual giving committee will be rewarding classes with the highest percentage of givers (we fall short in this category) and with the highest increase in percentage (we can win this one easily if all of us give something).

4. Attend Homecoming October 13-15 to celebrate our 40th Reunion. Highlights include:

  • Concordia Archives Exhibit: open throughout the weekend.
  • Banquet: 6:30 p.m. Friday.
  • Reunion Breakfast: 8:00 a.m. Saturday. Rolf Anderson: Emcee. Bob Brunsvold: Trivia Quizmaster.
  • Parade: 11:00 a.m. Saturday. Morrie Lanning: Organizer
  • The Football Game (against St. Olaf!!!): 1:00 p.m. Saturday.
  • Homecoming Concert featuring all of the music ensembles: 6:30 p.m. Saturday.
  • Reminiscing with classmates at our official gathering spot, the Courtyard by Marriott: 4 until midnight.

Reminder: NDSU’s Homecoming is the same weekend so motel rooms will be hard to come by. You may have to be creative if you don’t make your reservations early.

***Please note on the inside flap of the Cobber X-tra that all reunion breakfasts are to take place Saturday morning, not Friday morning.

See you in October!!
