A CHANCE TO BRAG A BIT ABOUT OUR CLASS
In our June 2005 Class Letter, we said that 58.7% or 141 of our class members contributed $32,580.87 in the past fiscal year. By April 30, 2006 (end of the last fiscal year), 62.2% or 155 of our class members contributed $117,319.72. Though we didn’t contribute the largest amount of money, our 62.2% is the highest participation percentage of all the classes between 1930 and 2005. Our thanks to Lois Austin Nornes and her fundraising committee for the great job they have done in making our class look so good.
Let’s commit ourselves to doing even better in our 50th year. Our contributions in this current fiscal year will be totaled with the past years and counted as our 50th Anniversary gift.
Ray Siegle to Receive an Alumni Achievement Award
We are proud to have one of our classmates chosen for this prestigious award, and delighted that it was Ray. Sadly, as we prepared to send this letter, we received word of Ray’s death. His life and career was a true testament of Concordia’s mission. He must have listened to the many sermons of Joe Knutson, Sigvald Fauske, Dean Boe, Reidar Thompte, Dorothy Olson, Eugene Fevold, Arthur Grimstad, Carl Bailey, Oscar Anderson, and the other faith-filled speakers who preached at daily chapel services (which we were required to attend). Ray was an outstanding pastor everywhere he served. His life and ministry demonstrated his faith, love, and commitment to serve God and humanity.
In his June 3 “CaringBridge” patient web page journal, he wrote that since his chemotherapy was no longer working his treatment switched to comfort – addressing symptoms and quality of life. To those who told him to “hang on,” he answered, “My faith in Jesus is a solid thing – that is my crown. What’s even more solid is that Jesus hangs on to me. Join with me in standing on solid ground!” You may wish to send a message of sympathy to Ruth (Tolo) Siegle at 4543 4th Street South, Moorhead, Minnesota 56560. She can be reached at 218-287-0549.
Since the NDSU Homecoming is the same weekend as ours, we remind you to make your reservations as soon as possible. We have reserved blocks of rooms at two Moorhead motels for the Class of 1956 – the Courtyard by Marriott ($89.00 per room; 800-321-2211) and the Day’s Inn ($69 per room; 877-287-7100). Please look over the enclosed Cobber X-tra, tear off the registration page, fill it out, and send it in the enclosed return envelope. We want to see you there!
***Please note on the inside flap of the Cobber X-tra that all reunion breakfasts are to take place Saturday morning, not Friday morning.
