June 2005

Dear Classmates of 1955,

Greetings to you all in this class letter of 2005.  I love doing this, and I hope you all enjoy receiving it from me.

I had a good time in Florida again for a little over two months this winter.  I still keep busy working as usher and head usher at Orchestra Hall and volunteering for the Minnesota Opera.  I do handbells and sing in two choirs at my church and take part in services as cantor, lector, and communion liturgist.

My grandsons are growing.  Trevor is 7 now, finishing first grade and Ian is 4.  They are my daughter, Susan's sons.  My son, David, is being married this summer, and I am so happy about that.  His fiancee, Kim, is a wonderful lady.

Your donations to Concordia this year were great.  59.3% participated in the amount of $34,668.54.  I thank those of you who have donated.  I would like to hear that more will do so before next April 30, but it does not mean you have to all give large amounts.

One thing we should all do is get more students for Concordia.  If you have relatives or friends finishing high school, give them information and suggest Concordia.

Class Notes:

We have had one classmate death this past year that I know of.  Donald Hanson, age 71, Minneota, MN died last July.  His wife, Bonnie (Borson) Hanson, class of ’56 survives.  Hope she has felt God's peace and love.

Joy (Anderson) Thompson, Mpls, MN, received an Honorable Mention for her contribution of her mixed-media work "Raven Cloak" to the 45th Annual Midwestern Exhibition at The Rourke Art Museum.

Philip Thompson, Mpls, MN, had artwork displayed in the 45th Annual Midwestern Exhibition at the The Rourke Art Museum.  Any of you who get awards or honors should send Class Notes for the next letter.

Homecoming 2005 – Our 50th Reunion!

I really hope to see many of you this fall at our 50th Class Reunion during the Homecoming at Concordia, September 30-October 2. Registration starts at noon on Friday, Sept. 30. Please bring pictures and memory things from our years on campus you would like to show to our table at registration.  There will be a bulletin board for the pictures and places to put other things.  Our committee will help move them to the Birkeland Lounge where we will meet after the Homecoming Banquet on Friday evening for punch and visiting.  There will also be nametags for you at the registration table with pictures from the 1955 yearbook.  For those who are non-graduates or did not have a senior picture, will you bring a picture of yourself from our time at Concordia to put on your nametag?

Our Reunion Breakfast is at 8:00 a.m. Saturday morning.  We will have a class picture taken on the steps of Old Main at 10:00.  The parade starts at 11:00 and we will be in the parade as a group.  If you are not able, you don't have to do the whole thing.  We can wear maroon and gold, and there will be class pennants available for all to carry.  Esther Allen is having an Open House for us from 2:30- 5:00 p.m. where we can visit and have refreshments.  Her address is 318 44th Ave. S. in Moorhead.  Saturday night is the Homecoming Show featuring Bravo Broadway at 6:30 p.m.

On Sunday is the Worship Service at 10:30 a.m. and the Homecoming Concert at 2:00 p.m.  So now you know all the things we can do together.  Remember to register early so we can all sit together at the Homecoming Banquet where we will be introduced as a class.

You will receive another letter later this summer about a Memory Book for our class. Concordia will collect information and pictures to be a part of the book which will be available at Homecoming.

For those of you who have access to the Internet, we have a special web site for our reunion at www.ConcordiaCollege.edu/1955.  There you can see a list of those who have registered to attend our reunion.  All of us who spend the weekend at the reunion will have a great time.
