Dear Cobbers of 1953,
We are getting ready for the big 50th on Oct. 3-5. Hope you
are planning to be there!
On May 14th a brainstorming group got together at Concordia
to plan for this event. The following were present and made
some great contributions: Al Turmo, Wes Haugen, Bryant Ulseth,
Dorwin Hansen, Bev Brakke Carlson, Elsie Seljevold Huber, Dori
Thorson Lund, Delores Nelson Dalen, Janine Hansen Mattson, Rose
Mary Wright Moore, Margaret Jesten Rostad and me.
We planned a full weekend starting with the Friday night Homecoming
Banquet. Please purchase your tickets early so we can all sit
together. We will have an informal gathering in Birkeland Lounge
after the banquet and program to visit and get reacquainted.
Saturday morning we will begin early with a class breakfast
with Dave Green as our MC. The committee is planning a great
program that will include a short memorial service led by Delbert
Ring for our 27 deceased classmates, music by classmates, a
bulletin board with classmates’ pictures, a class poem
written by one of our own and an art, craft, and writings display
authored and created by classmates.
If you attend the reunion or not, we would like you to send
one recent picture of yourself, or you and your family, to include
on the bulletin board. Please put your name and address on the
back of the picture if you want it returned to you. Send it
to Concordia College Alumni Office, Attn: Kristin Bortnem.
Delores Nelson Dalen and Janine Hansen Mattson are heading up
the art, craft and writings display. Please contribute to this
and let them know what you will bring with you. In order that
they may plan for tables and display space, please call one
of them and tell them of your contribution. Dee’s number
is 281-532-7256 and Janine’s number is 651-890-3782.
After the breakfast, we will be part of the Homecoming parade.
We hope to have a 1953 truck or car to represent us and we want
as many as possible to walk along in a group (6-8 blocks) in
the parade. Bring wrapped candy to throw to the many children
(and adults) that line the streets. Our parade committee consists
of Dorwin Hansen, Al Turmo and Bryant Ulseth.
The parade will take us to the Jake Christianson Stadium where
we plan to defeat Hamline. Following the game we will gather
at Frida Nilsen Lounge in Fjelstad Hall for more conversation,
coffee and cookie time.
Saturday evening, if you are not too pooped out, you can attend
the Saturday night Homecoming Show. Sunday morning church service
is a wonderful experience with the choir and band participating.
Sunday afternoon the choir, orchestra, and band will present
a concert.
I anxiously look forward to seeing all of you in October at
our ’53 reunion.
