C-News Information/FAQ

About C-News Today
C-News Today is a daily e-mail sent to all Concordia e-mail addresses to keep students, faculty and staff updated on campus news and events. In addition to providing you with all new notices, your C-News Today includes a link to the comprehensive C-News page on the Concordia Web site – which includes all current notices.

Consult C-News Today for all new announcements and use C-News on the Web for complete news and event information.

C-News offers two key advantages:

1. Easy, convenient access – Everything you need to know about Concordia is on your electronic doorstep every morning.

2. Timely information – Information is updated daily. Now you can submit information at any time and your message will generally be published within 24 hours – with the exception of weekends. Submissions made after 4 p.m. Friday will appear Monday morning.

Additionally, C-News should greatly reduce the vast potpourri of messaging that appears via Cobweb Express. Instead, Cobweb Express (handled through Web Services) can be more appropriately employed as originally intended – disseminating urgent or extremely time-sensitive information.

Our goal is to make C-News Today and C-News on the Web as valuable and user-friendly as possible. Read through the FAQ below for essential details regarding submission procedures and other important matters relating to C-News.

C-News FAQ

How do I subscribe?
If you have a Concordia e-mail address, you are already subscribed to C-News Today. At this time, we are limiting the recipient list to Concordia e-mails, but anyone can look at the C-News on the Web.

Who can submit information?
Anyone! You just need access to a computer.

How do I submit items for C-News?
It’s easy. Just visit the online submission form and create a log-in account for yourself. You can use this same log-in each time you enter information. Once you’re on the C-News entry page, be sure to select the appropriate category for your submission (news story) or event (a calendar item).

Your submission or event will be reviewed by an administrator, but please be attentive to your grammar, spelling and punctuation. Remember to select start and end dates. If a date is not selected, it will default to Dec. 31, 1969 and your item will not appear in C-News. Also, check the box to have your item included in C-News Today. If you would like your submission to appear in the next day’s C-News Today, you must submit it by 4 p.m.

Note: If you are working on a Mac computer, a Mozilla browser is required to submit your information.

When will my submission appear on C-News and in the C-News Today e-mail?
Your submission will appear in C-News and on your indicated start date and run until your designated end date. If you checked the C-News Today box, your submission will also appear in C-News Today on the indicated start date as a new item.

What if I need to update a submission?
You can change your news item simply by logging into the C-News system and making the edits. If you have a change to an event you submitted, you'll need to contact Kim Kappes.

I submitted an image, but it is not showing up. Why?
Images must be sized appropriately to work in the system. All images should be no larger than 400x400 pixels (at 72 dpi).

Is there a word limit for my News & Events submission?
Yes, the title is limited to 50 characters and the summary is limited to 250 characters. There is no limit on the body copy. We encourage you to only include two short sentences in the summary section of the submission page. These sentences will appear on the main C-News page and readers will be able to click on your headline to read more information. Include all of your submission information in the body section of the submission page.

What if I don’t have access to a computer?
If you are unable to access a computer regularly, your department head can by printing the main C-News page weekly to help you keep up-to-date on the news. Special arrangements are being made to provide printed information for dining service and physical plant employees.

How do I unsubscribe?
Because C-News contains critical campus information, all students, faculty and staff will receive it each day. If you do not want C-News Today in your in-box each morning, it is recommended that you set up a filter on your e-mail client.
