AFRICAN STUDENT UNION EVENT: REBRANDING AFRICA. BEYOND STEREOTYPES: PAST, PRESENT, FUTURE

The African Student Union (ASU) will be hosting the first ever Tri-College event on Thursday, November 8, 2012 from 8:00 pm to 9:30 pm in the Knutson Campus Center Centrum, Concordia ColLege. What follows is the platform for the event:
REBRANDING AFRICA: BEYOND STEREOTYPES; PAST, PRESENT, FUTURE
The event will explore the story of Africa from different lenses. Most importantly, speakers will highlight how the stories of the past in Africa have shaped the legacy of the present, thereby highlighting the consequences of the latter on the present image of Africa and Africans  worlwide. Finally, speakers will end by providing a vision for the future, a need to move beyond stereotypes in order to build the next chapter in Africa and the need for the rise of a new generation to lead the way.
The ASU members believe that young Africans (Concordia Alumni and current students as well as faculty members of our community, locally, nationally and internationally) are leading the way by being responsibly engaged in Africa  and in the world. Their stories will inspire students, faculty and staff on Campus, reinforcing the idea that becoming responsibly engaged is not just a phrase in the College Curriculum, but it is the responsibility of all.
Aditionally no matter the differences in majors on our campus, one thing is sure: upon graduation, students are going to enter a world that is growing in diversity and cultural pluralism and will have to understand  these principles. This event will be an opportunity for students to be exposed to these issues: thus an eye opener for their  lives at Concordia and in the future when they graduate.
ASU is looking forward to having you join the event on November 8, 2012.
