Capstone Presentations on "Dangerous Literature"
The "Dangerous Literature" Core Capstone (ENG 483) students will present on four authors and their challenges to authority in an open community lecture at the Moorhead Public Library, Monday, October 29, at 7 pm. The presentation will last approximately one hour, followed by Q&A. The works they will discuss are: poetry by Anna Akhmatova (challenge to Stalinist rule); the nonfiction Bury My Heart at Wounded Knee by Dee Brown (challenge to historical narrative and racism); the play and film One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest by Ken Kesey (challenge to social institutions: prison and mental hospitals); and the novel A Handmaid’s Tale by Margaret Atwood (challenge to religious extremism and gender notions). This event is a One Book, One Community event. One Book, One Community is a partnership between the Fargo Library, the West Fargo Library and the Lake Agassiz Regional Library (Moorhead Library).
