Snap, Crackle, Pop-Art Offered at Rourke Museum

Tania Blanich, executive director of The Rourke Art Museum, will teach “Snap, Crackle, Pop-Art” through F/M Communiversity on Saturdays, November 10 and 17.

Pop art challenged the traditions of fine art by using images from popular culture, such as advertisements or mass-produced items, to create original art. This two-part course will explore pop art’s past and its present. Part one will review and discuss artwork created by forerunners of the pop art movement in the U.S., including Lichtenstein, Warhol and Rosenquist. Part two will explore how German artist Moritz Gotze has built on the pop art tradition. Gotze’s art is currently on display at the Rourke Art Museum.

The course will be held at the Rourke Art Museum, 521 Main Avenue, Moorhead, from 1:30 to 3:30pm.  The course fee is $24; $12 for Concordia staff and faculty. To register, call 218-299-3438. For more information, go to www.fmcommuniversity.org or email communiversity@cord.edu.
