Hiram Drache to be Honored
The Historical and Cultural Society of Clay County (HCSCC) will be honoring historian Dr. Hiram Drache with this year’s Clay County Heritage Award, created to celebrate the accomplishments of those who make a meaningful contribution to the history and culture of Clay County. Drache, former professor of history at Concordia College for 37 years, has been historian-in-residence since 1991.
The HCSCC will be honoring Drache at their annual fall fundraiser with this year’s theme: “Remember the ‘60s? One Groovy Gala”. This year’s event is on Friday, Oct. 29 from 6 – 10 p.m. at the Hjemkomst Center. Tickets are $50 per person ($25 tax deductible) and available in the Hjemkomst Center Heritage Gift Shop, or call 218-299-5511, Ext. 6737.
The HCSCC collects, preserves, and presents the history and culture of Clay County and the region. The HCSCC also provides interpretation of the Hjemkomst Viking Ship, Hopperstad Stave Church Replica, and Red River Valley Exhibition and hosts traveling exhibits in 7,000 sq. feet of temporary exhibition space. The HCSCC is a community resource for 150,000 people in the Fargo-Moorhead metro area and serves an average of 40,000 visitors a year from all over the world.
