Witteman Organizes Supply Drive for Haitian School
Barb Witteman’s mission trip to Haiti turned out to be more involved than she expected. While there in January, she was asked to observe and help elementary school teachers. Witteman, an associate professor in the education department, led workshops and classes, but soon learned that the school couldn’t afford common classroom supplies. When she returned home, Witteman organized a school supply drive with help from area schools and student organizations from Concordia. The first shipment of supplies, including first aid kits and individual whiteboards, was sent in April. This fall, Witteman will work with Concordia students to translate books into French in preparation for her return to Haiti.
