Student Government Association

Gain valuable civic and service leadership experience while making life even better for your fellow Concordia students – all while having fun!

Each year, dozens of students get involved with Student Government Association, the official representative of all Concordia students. The SGA president, vice president, commissioners and class representatives work together to develop strong ties between the faculty, administration and students. Recently, SGA has promoted the installation of safety beacons on campus and lengthened the hours of intervisitation in the residence halls among other things.

SGA is made up of the following councils and positions:

Executive Office

President (elected): The official representative of the SGA in all matters within the college, responsible for upholding the SGA Constitution, and has the power to create necessary committees with the approval of the Elections and Credentials Council.
Vice President (elected): Assumes the duties of the president in the instance of an absence or incapacitation of the president, gas the power to convene the Student Government Association Forum and serve as the presiding official during proceedings.
Council of Commissioners: Students represent the following organizations and services on campus:
Academic Affairs
Campus Entertainment Commission
Campus Ministry Commission
Campus Service Commission
Facilities and Services
Programs and Events
Public Relations
Student Advocate
Student Business Office

Student Involvement Council

Includes the Student Involvement Commissioner and four class representatives, one each from Intercultural Affairs, Residence Life, off campus and LeadNow. These representatives are responsible for appropriating funds from the student activity fee to designated bodies as established in the by-laws.

Elections and Credentials Council

Includes the Elections and Credentials Commissioner and four class representatives and student officials and staff advisors. Has the authority to conduct elections and the power to select students to fill significant student leadership positions.

The Office of Class Representatives

The Office of Class Representatives consists of two elected members from each class, one of each which also serves on the Student Involvement Council and the Elections and Credentials Council.

Student Advocate

Student who is selected to educate, advise and represent members of the student body regarding student rights and responsibilities.

Student Government Association Forum

This legislative body of Student Government Association is made up of the Executive Office, Student Involvement Council and the Office of Class Representatives. The SGA Forum shall have sole power to approve additions or revisions of the by-laws.
