Social Security

Information from the Social Security Administration is available online.  It is possible for F-1 students who will work on campus to apply for and receive a US social security number.  To apply, please take these materials with you to the social security office (Federal Building/Post Office, 657 2nd Avenue N, #320, Fargo, ND 58102, 701.239.5607):

• Passport including US visa
• I-20
• I-94 entry card (may be stapled inside passport
• Evidence of being employed and in F-1 status
• Completed social security application

While a social security number may be handy and desirable for many reasons, only F-1 students who will work are eligible to apply for and receive a card.
