This website is intended to provide a resource to parents of our students on issues related to alcohol use and abuse. National research indicates that the decisions students make during their first weeks of college can set the course for their entire college career. Choices about the use of alcohol and other drugs can affect their success in college. The college takes this issue seriously and wants to collaborate with parents to promote healthy decision-making.
Though Concordia College has very low rates of alcohol use compared with regional and national averages, the impact is still felt on our campus. Nationally, this is one of the most difficult issues with which colleges are struggling. Consequences of alcohol use and abuse can include death, injury and assault, sexual abuse and unsafe sexual activity, academic problems, as well as trouble with campus and civil authorities.
Parents have a significant impact on their son or daughter's decision-making. We want to encourage you to be in conversation with your student before he or she leaves for college and especially in the early weeks as a new student. We hope this website will assist you with by providing information about the college's approach to alcohol use and abuse as well as some tools you might find helpful in conversation with your student.
