The Day of Reckoning 2008-2009 is a day that is meant for Concordia College to learn about and reflect on the violence that is overtaking our world. Building on the Peace Prize Forum in the Spring of 2008 and the new Core Curriculum of the College, this is a day that is meant to bring everyone together to experience the world in a new way and create new understanding amongst the students of Concordia. Check out the Facebook group for continuing updates on this powerful event.

Schedule of Events for October 4, 2008

12:00pm: Kickoff & Welcome
Location: Centrum

12:30pm: Rough Cut DVD (Invisible Children)
Location: Centrum
The Invisible Children series details the lives of children who are being forced to fight the Civil War in Uganda. A powerful series, created by a group of students whose trip to Afghanistan after 9/11 was derailed, powerfully represents the struggles of war and its impact on an entire generation.

2:00pm: Discussion Group on Rough Cut
Location: The Maize
Soulfege will be here for this event to help moderate a discussion on the world, its problems and possible solutions.

3:15pm: Ultimate Frisbee & Crafts
Location: North Mall
Come and get your frisbee on during a Frisbee for Peace game of Ultimate Frisbee. Also, there will be crafts available to make the day memorable complete with magnets and pictures.

5:00pm: Dinner and a Movie (Bang Bang You’re Dead)
Location: Anderson Dining Commons/The Maize
“Bang Bang You’re Dead” is a powerful HBO film which outlines the horrors and impacts of school violence. The film tells the story of a high-schooler who is outcast after calling in a bomb threat to ward off bullies. Trevor quickly becomes the suspect of any wrongdoing at the school and one teacher gives him a unique opportunity: acting in a play about a school shooting from a remorseful shooters perspective. The film comes to a head as Trevor stumbles upon a plot for an actual school shooting at his school.

If you don't have a meal plan, you can watch this movie in The Maize.

7:00pm: Reflective Worship Service
Location: Centrum
This will serve as an interfaith worship service and time of reflection.

8:45pm: Concert with Soulfege
**Checkout Soulfege**
Location: Centrum
Soulfege is a powerful hip-hop group which has strong messages of social and personal responsibility. They have workshops focusing on diversity training and becoming actively engaged in the world around you.

10:45pm: Cardboard Sleep-out
Location: North Mall
The “sleep-out” around campus is meant for students to be able to experience homelessness and poverty in an experiential way.
