Funding Opportunities

SGA Undergraduate Research Program

This program will support student involvement in research opportunities by funding two summer research fellowships, allowing SGA to significantly and distinctively contribute to Concordia’s undergraduate research programming.  Funding will allow the fellows to pursue independent scholarly research or a creative/artistic endeavor under the close supervision of an academic mentor; students are encouraged to undertake a project that prepares them for responsible engagement with the world.

Summer research fellows will be awarded to students in any discipline or area of study.  Fellows will receive a summer stipend of $3,000, a $750 travel award, and a research award for expenses totaling $700.  Each fellow must identify an academic mentor to assist in the development of their project; faculty will receive stipends congruent with their involvement in the project.  Current juniors, sophomores and first year students are eligible to apply.

SPIF

The Special Projects and Initiatives Fund (SPIF) is an additional source of funding for high-impact, college-wide programs or projects that enhance the overall student experience at Concordia College. Projects supported by the SPIF should be of audacious vision and scope, either fostering a unique educational experience for the student body, having a long-term impact at the institutional level, and/or increasing the visibility of Concordia College within the wider community of institutions of higher learning. Projects also should be in keeping with the stated mission and policies of Concordia College and the ELCA. The SPIF consists of allocated but unspent Student Activity Fee money from the previous year, and is accessible only by an application process. Applications must be submitted by a full-time student, and projects may be proposed on behalf of a student organization or group. For more information, contact the Student Involvement Commissioner at sgasic@cord.edu.
Requests are reviewed on a rolling basis. Decisions regarding your request are generally made within 3 weeks of receiving the submission.

*Requests must be received by April 5, 2013 in order to receive notification for this academic year. SPIF funding for 2013-2014 will be made available in September 2013.
