Does the college have a health service or doctor?
Kjos Health Center is staffed with a nurse practitioner who has office hours in the mornings, and a registered nurse also is available mornings and afternoons, Monday through Friday during the regular academic year. Kjos Health Center functions as a full-service clinic. Referrals are made as needed. Charges are submitted to the student’s health insurance, with charges not covered by insurance being the responsibility of the students and their parents.

Students should carry and bring their insurance card for registration at appointments or walk-in office visits.

What immunizations are required?
Minnesota State law mandates that all student health files have up-to-date documentation of a Diphtheria-Tetanus booster within 10 years and two dates for MMR (measles, mumps and rubella). These immunizations are available at Kjos Health Center at a cost. Students are unable to register for the next semester without this documentation.

How about health or accident insurance?
All students should have health insurance. If your family has a medical insurance policy, you may be covered by it. However, you should check this because some policies do not cover dependents after age 19.

If you do not have health insurance coverage through your parents’ policy or some other policy, reasonably priced coverage is available through a student group health plan. Enrollment information and brochures will be sent to you during the summer, and you can purchase coverage online prior to arriving on campus.

All students are strongly encouraged to carry their own health insurance card with them at all times.

Do I have to have a physical examination before attending Concordia?
No.  A physical examination is not required for admission, but it is recommended.

I will be playing a sport at Concordia.  What should I know about sports and my health record?
If you will be participating in varsity sports, a physical examination is required.  The exam must be done after June 1 of the year that you will enter Concordia.
