FAQs
College Living
Where will I live?First-year students and sophomores live in residence halls unless they are local residents or are granted special permission to live off campus. Local students are encouraged to live in a residence hall for at least the first year.
Are my personal belongings covered by the college’s insurance?
No. You should check with your parents to see if their homeowner’s insurance extends to your belongings brought to campus. Many policies do give extended coverage; if not, you may want to add a rider to your parents’ policy, particularly to cover items such as cameras, stereos, musical instruments and computers.
Who decides where my room will be?
The Residence Life Office determines assignments to residence hall rooms. You should be informed of your assignment around mid-July. Provided your housing application and deposit are received prior to May 1, the priority for assignment to a particular residence hall is based on the date your reservation deposit was received in the Admissions Office.
Who decides who my roommates will be?
If you have someone you want as a roommate – someone you already know, for example – your choice will generally be honored, provided you let Residence Life know about it before assignments are made and provided all concerned make the same request. Our room agreement form has a space for this information. Otherwise, the Residence Life Office staff will choose a roommate for you based on your interests and living preferences.
What should I bring with me in the fall to furnish my residence hall room?
Bring bedding (sheets, pillows, pillowcases, blankets, comforters) and towels. Study lamps are provided in Erickson, Hallett, Hoyum and Livedalen residence halls. There are a few variable items; if we expect you to provide something not mentioned here, we will tell you about it in the room assignment letter you receive in midsummer.
What do I need to know about bringing a computer?
Please visit the Information Technology Services website.
Are there laundry facilities?
Yes, each residence hall has washers and dryers located in the lower level. These machines are activated with your Concordia ID card. You can deposit money as needed into your Cobber Cash Account. You need to bring your own detergent and iron.
