2010 - 2011 Season

District IV Qualifying Tournament - February 25 - 27

On February 25-27, Concordia debate competitors traveled to the University of Minnesota – Twin Cities to participate in the District IV Qualifying Tournament. The team of Emily Bosch ’14 and Erik Walker ’13 finished as first alternate to the National Debate Tournament, missing qualification by one ballot. Also competing at the tournament was the team of Kate Engstrom ’14 and Nathaniel Nesiba ’13. The hard work put demonstrated by such young competitors will undoubtedly aid them next season. 

Emporia State University - October 16 - 18

The Concordia College Debate Team competed on October 16-18 at the Emporia State Debate Tournament at Emporia, Kansas.  Competing for Concordia included the debate teams Erik Walker ‘13 and Emily Bosch ’14 and debate team Nathanial Nesiba ‘13 and Kate Engstrom ’14. The team of Erik Walker and Emily Bosch advanced to Octa-Finals at the tournament giving successors The University of Missouri-Kansas City some stiff competition.  Erik Walker placed tenth overall speaker at the tournament.  This is a very impressive showing for a young team of debaters which will certainly lead to exciting successes later this season.  

University of Northern Iowa - September 18 - 19

Four debaters from the Concordia College Forensics team started the new debate season September 18-19 at the University of Northern Iowa. Emily Bosch '14 and Erik Walker '13 defeated teams from Wayne State University (Detroid, MI), Augustana College (Rock Island, IL), and the University of Minnesota (Twin Cities) to compile a 6-0 record in the preliminary rounds, advancing tot he quarterfinal round as first seed. In the quarter-finals, they lost a 2-1 decision to the University of Iowa. Additionally, Bosch was ranked as the 3rd individual speaker, and Walker was named top speaker of the tournament.

Kate Engstrom '14 and Nathaniel Nesiba '13 also competed at the tournament, going 2-4 in preliminaries, but not advancing to quarterfinals.
