Hone your debate skills at Concordia College’s Summer Debate Institute, held on campus and led by our own award-winning debate team and coaches. Established in 1968, our summer program for high school policy debaters has educated thousands of high school students. We’d love for you to join that number!Concordia offers instruction for all levels and its alumni have continually been in late elimination rounds at Nationals and have won all levels of State Debate Tournaments.
Our Values: Concordia values the experience of the students while at the institute; knowledge that they gain from instruction, practice and support of instructors; and results they experience after they attend with institute.
July 18-August 7, 2010
Our traditional debate program, the Three-Week Institute is recommended for the vast majority of debate students. We take pride in our success with teaching both novices and experienced debaters who aspire to become state champions and Tournament of Champions participants.
This program is limited to 60 students and focuses upon long-term skill development, including critical thinking, research skills, position construction, and in-round decision making. While other programs send students off to the library to construct a staff member's vision of a debate position, we help students learn to research and construct positions on their own. Individualized instruction, practicums immediately following teaching sessions, numerous debate rounds and targeted skill development make this happen.
Our success stories from the Three-Week Institute include state champions, runner ups, national qualifiers, top five at nationals, top 10 at nationals, successful college debaters, professors, lawyers, teachers and more.
